@nixCraft A machine that actually ran something called Linux, 2013.
But something that looked like Unix? I think that was 1990.
Spent a lot of time on AIX during those years.

@nixCraft But if you have to get involved with any of them, consider your best ways to work with drugs or gangs.

* That drive didn't make that noise yesterday.
* It's only just the servers on the one rack.
* Don't tell me you're using an Oracle Java distro. That shit is licensed these days.
@nixCraft Personally, it's the size of the screen.I've been coding for decades and staring at screens throughout. But staring at iPhone and iPad screens the last few years has completely F-ed up my attention span. My ability to read a book has gone from 60 to 0.
@nixCraft
Third option should have been "what is 'Snaps app format?'".
@nixCraft I believe this is in the jargon file under "black magic", although there are tones of "voodoo programming" in using something you pulled off a forum or blog.

@nixCraft Have encountered something like this. Uploaded a scientist's seminar presentation to the office YouTube account, and it got blocked because his PowerPoint stack included a very short BBC video news clip. Bang.

There are a couple of those I've done (again) within just the few months.
@nixCraft
* The thwapetty-thwapetty sound of a DEC magtape unwilling all the way off one spool when you were dismounting it.
* The sound of a property line printer.
* The bwooong of a Mac booting-up.
* The ZIP drive click of death.
@nixCraft Completely wrong. I, a person, can read my Perl code.
@nixCraft BASIC for PDP, because I was 13 or 14 years old and WTF ever heard of a "personal computer" in 1978?
@nixCraft Dude at the upper right gets a promotion for checking xkcd. The rest can play again.
@nixCraft Spam e-mail and text msgs from who the hell knows where.
Oh, you were asking for non-serious guesses. Sorry. I'm all out.
@nixCraft I know I'm new in these parts but where's Arch Linux dude(s) insisting he owns the one ring to rule them all?
@nixCraft It was a gambling game of some sort, I think a roulette simulator. Written in BASIC on a DEC PDP (11?) back about August or September of 1977. Whatever I was using for documentation did a shit job of demonstrating how to declare an array.
