I started in 1994 ;)

@nixCraft 2017 :3
@nixCraft I am a professional software developer. The KDE desktop beta was released on 20th October 1997. October and November 1997 were the months I started using Linux as the sole operating desktop system for all development.
I never returned or switched to any other OS. But I jumped distros a few times, and tested lots of them along the way.
@nixCraft ~2013AD
@nixCraft 2001 at my job doing visual effects. I never touch windows at work from them.
@nixCraft since 2016, i only use Linux on my machine.
@nixCraft A machine that actually ran something called Linux, 2013.
But something that looked like Unix? I think that was 1990.

Spent a lot of time on AIX during those years.
@nixCraft 1996 with Slackware.
@nixCraft 2004 with Slackware 9.x or 10.x
@nixCraft I have to think about that a little longer. That must have been back then™, when our cave guardian was our TRex. But was it before the meteorite impact caused this climate change or after? I just can't remember exactly when that was, it was too long ago!
@nixCraft Mainlining Ubuntu since 2006
@nixCraft it was 2000
@nixCraft first try 2010. Full switch somewhere between 2014 and 2017.
But I think I heard of Linux sometimes before 2010. I thought I even tried it before but I can't find evidence.
@nixCraft Same. Maybe a year earlier (minix).
@nixCraft Ich hbae erst 2008 so wirklich begonnen Linux ausschließlich zu verwenden
@nixCraft I started with 0.99 as alternative to the sun servers I managed in our University Institute.
@nixCraft i don't remeber but I used SuSE Linux version 5.x.!
@nixCraft ha! I found its box... :)
@nixCraft 1998
@nixCraft 2020, I think, with linux mint
@nixCraft Courtesy of being bothered by a buddy of mine for many years at this point, I think I started down this rabbit hole around 2016-ish.
@nixCraft 2006 with mailed Ubuntu CDs
@nixCraft somewhere in 1997 with a successful install of slackware 3.3
I tried a few months before with redhat .. never managed to have a graphical interface working
@nixCraft been coming and going from the cult since 1998
@nixCraft introduced to Linux in 1997 but didn’t begin using it as the lord intended until I started a homelab in 2022ish. Much regret for sleeping on it.
@nixCraft Thank you to all that are posting. Brings back lots of memories!
My first interaction with Linux came mid 1994 after I purchased a magazine (with obligatory CD) to read on a long haul flight back home.
Here we are in 2024 and I'm still exclusively Linux, after all these years.
@nixCraft I tried in '97, but Redhat didn't have support for a USB keyboard during install, and my computer didn't have a PC2 port. By '99 I got fed up with windows Me and tried again. Been Linux ever since.
@nixCraft 1999 with Suse 6.3
@nixCraft 2002ish
@nixCraft
1999 with SuSE Linux 6.2
@nixCraft First touch in 1994 during my studies but i didn't conscience it (unix courses). My first Linux full time job started in 1997 as Sysadmin manager (with many SMP headaches on Pentium Pro...)
@nixCraft
Same. Awesome disc juggling
@nixCraft 2023, started with Mint, moved to #Debian, then #Fedora, then I got a #SteamDeck, then put #Bazzite on it. That's where I'm at currently, thinking about installing #Arch once I get an actual computer, whether that be a laptop or desktop
@nixCraft since 2018-2019
@nixCraft Curious and dabbling for a long time, but daily user since probably 2020. Felt like coming home.
