@mint@lina nobody thinks the PT cruiser is reliable yet there's some people outside the USA buying them for the meme value or the batshit crazy aesthetics. It's literally a Dodge Neon as a "retro styled hatchback" but it ended up outliving the Neon by quite a few years thanks to boomers.
Case in point, people in Japan buying PT Cruisers. How is this a thing. Why was this a thing. https://youtu.be/Na-M6vPua-E
You can pop into any Discord server and it will be a very sanitized place. No characters, chat retards, or organic discussion topics (no HRT usage and current political thing do not count). It's a sanitized social experience, with anything interesting that could possibly exist stripped out and replaced with pronoun havers acting like braindamaged zoomers straight out of Roblox.
The person who posted this in a chat even asked the question, "What do people even talk about?"
This, this is why the fediverse will succeed. The other places online have taken away the ability to be yourself without being forced into a mold by the jannies. most normal discord.jpg photo_2023-10-18_22-53-55.jpg
@Slacker@dcc It's not an EN normie instance. It's a JP normie instance. It is right now. It is the 5th largest fedi instance and is nearing 400k users. image.png image.png
@dcc Maybe it's because they don't need to log in and see the admin's pill bottle/booze rage again, or some nasty breakup leading to the server going down.
This is one of my friends reasons for not touching the fedi, he saw Pawoo as a professionally run fedi server only because the Mastodon servers he tried joining at the time kept fucking going down.
@dcc >trying to appeal to Normies has never worked.
Except it does. They just go into either mega instances like mastosoc or misskey.io, or walled gardens using Mastodon as a backend like Gab or Truth Social. Mastodon has solved the instance problem by just wanting people to sign up for the flagship instance.
@dcc >people want networks where they can be closed off
It's not that. Normies just don't want to deal with the fact that their posts will never be seen because someone else made a blocking choice for them. image.png
