One big reason is not to let a country profit from a war it starts. That would justify mass killings as a means to resolve international conflicts.

Another reason is that it would make Russia more powerful and likely to direct it's attentions to other countries that are big USA trading partners. During the Soviet times they put nationals everywhere, and they are now claiming that they are oppressed.

A third reason is cultural links, prob not as important for USA.

Stop funding Kyiv really would just freeze the conflict in place only to flare up again in a few years at best. At worst it will increase the Kremlin efforts and they would take a big piece of Ukraine.

Russia just accidentally dropped some drones on a NATO country. If your worldview was correct we'd very soon (a few days) see a big open NATO reaction, like bombing a military base in Sebastopol.

And to be fair to the concept of NATO, the treaties, they were put up to make the burden of an effective military for each country lighter. The bureaucratic organization of course does everything to continue its existence and importance, as every bureaucratic organization does. We have to be aware of that, and many Western European countries are quite naïve in this regard.

I don't think that stepping out will solve anything. It may freeze the conflict for a while, but this conflict is older than the USA, and the shit the Kremlin has been pulling for the last 20+ years, especially the last 1.5 years, will make real peace impossible. There are also dormant sentiments (Crim Tatars, Ethno-Russians, Azov-bat, Paganists, etc.) awakened that make peace without power almost impossible.

Thinks are getting hard, and the instinct to just run away and hide is strong then. But that is probably not a good long-term strategy. If it isolates itself, US assets/interests will be picked off one-by-one, first abroad then domestically.

It doesn't matter that much what I sound like, more the impression you make on your new friends. Russia has been heavily pushing the narrative that their war against the Ukrainians is caused by the USA, as well as that it is a war against NATO.

If the USA steps out now, Xi, Modi, etc. would consider the USA a pushover. Maybe you yourself are too old to feel the consequences, but your children or grandchildren would.
