digital media should be cheaper than physical media because the intrinsic value you are getting is less and the only cost involved for the producer is the server hosting.
@inTrax i've heard people suggest that physical versions can go back to including cool stuff with them again and it could justify a bit of a higher price. like just collector's editions or something like that. or fuck, at least those little manuals again. game cases still have spots for those to go but it's always just like DLC code inserts.
i think there are still a decent amount of people who would be willing to pay $10 for physical though tbh. i mean, i bought a copy of a game i already owned digitally to have a physical version before.
@xianc78 #5 is unequivocally the best option out of all these. i stand by my anime avatar shitposter brethren.
the true way to go though is knowing that you won't get absolutely everything you want from just one place. nobody really had that way of thinking until the massive social media conglomerates came around. i've got newgrounds, fedi, gaming/game dev forums, and discord all for different purposes. just like hanging out with a different group of friends, or your family instead of your friends, you'll act differently and talk about different things and there are certain social rules to follow. all that jazz.
@xianc78 how in the world do you get "don't collect anything" from the sin of lust....? If anything it would be greed, or maybe pride depending. But it could also be neither of those things depending on how you act or think about your collection. If collecting is something you do for a fun hobby or have some bigger goal like preservation, it's probably fine. If you're collecting intentionally to get things so that nobody else can have them, or you're doing it to stroke your own ego ("I'm better than you because I have a bigger collection!") that's where it would get into greed/pride territory.
I'd say it would only be considered lust if the prime directive for collecting was either sexual, or to advance in a hierarchy of power somehow. A child wanting an action figure probably doesn't qualify as either of those things.
I wouldn't think it was sinful to have a coin collection and dream of wanting the last coin in a series that you need to have a complete one, just to be excited about it. I don't think it's sinful for me to see an anime figure and think "that's pretty cool, I'd like to have that on my shelf!" I'm not collecting them for any reason other than I think they're cool to have.
With each passing day, I acknowledge more that I may end up just being the cool uncle. Kids think I'm fucking awesome. I just lack the ability to be appealing to anybody that wants kids. It's not even a self-confidence thing, the fact of the matter is that there are guys in the dating pool at all times much more capable than I am and I don't have the looks to back up the areas where I'm lacking. I think I would make a great spouse and a great dad, but the woman who also sees and believes that would have to be incredibly patient and supportive and we kind of live in a time where you don't need to be patient, and being supportive of yourself is already hard enough for a lot of people.
And of course, the one girl that was like that I had to go and screw things up with. I'm still malding about that even ten years later :meru_lul: would have maybe been another one too, but religion mismatch killed it for her.
