@Essiecks In Japan, you can find porn in a convenience store open to all ages. You can buy loli/shota material at a regular book store, just an aisle away from family friendly manga. No where in the west can you legally get away with selling loli/shota to the public.

The trade off for Japan’s censorship is that they have more avenues to freely sell NSFW. While the US touts uncensored freedom of expression, it puts restrictions on how we can distribute it (e.g. US banks influencing Fanbox ToS)

@Essiecks it is not quite the same comparison when it comes to adult-only spaces. In the US for example, porn is sold in sex shops where anyone that looks remotely young and under 30 years old is carded upon entry. Staff must verify that they are adults in order for them to legally browse the store.

There is a lot of red tape in America when it comes to distributing explicit content and it is why we are now seeing states pass online age verification laws for porn sites.

@degenephilia I think e621 may have jumped the gun a little on blocking all of North Carolina because the bill only affects commercial entities that publish or distribute “harmful material to minors on the internet from a website that contains a substantial portion of such material…”

As I understand it, e621 is not a commercial entity. Maybe I’m wrong and they have some business profit model I am unaware of, but in any case I can understand why they wish to consult w/ actual legal counsel first
