You ready to defend people who have been pushed around relentlessly by the agents of capital? In person or by researching the city's possible legal overreach, evicting from non-city land?

(The where to donate money part is easy at least: https://opencollective.com/mpls-northside-mutual-aid/ )

10,000 sq ft to do https://envisioncommunitymn.org/proposal/ ideal but we'll take anything.

benjamin melançon (mlncn@social.coop)'s status on Saturday, 25-Feb-2023 01:06:35 JST benjamin melançon Anyone else in a #software consultancy or an independent #programmer and thinking through what to do about #GitLab's increasing determination to extract money?
We have long suggested GitLab for most @agaric clients because it is in part (but decreasingly?) #OpenSource and, well, you could do pretty much everything on the free plan.
That is being clawed back, and user-based pricing gets expensive fast. From $0 to nearly $3K/year for a project with 12–14 people able to casually participate.

And capitalists will try their best to flood every creative endeavor with artificially-created derivations and drivel, trying to drive down the the price of all labor, no matter the human cost on both sides of that.
The problem is #capitalism

benjamin melançon (mlncn@social.coop)'s status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 17:37:53 JST benjamin melançon @zens Most of our systems are set up for managing inequality, whether police/prosecutors/prisons (inc. militarized borders & criminalized migration) for repressing the dispossessed, or corps & complex high finance shenanigans for concentrated capital to have ways to become more capital for the same rich people.
Redistribute wealth only, and systems adapt away from repression and towards cooperative ventures, where we get institutions to pool resources bottom up rather than wield power top down.

benjamin melançon (mlncn@social.coop)'s status on Monday, 06-Feb-2023 17:37:51 JST benjamin melançon @zens but we also know a mild tweak to the system like a 2% or more annual redistribution of wealth would be fought by the capitalist class so intensely as to require a revolution anyway. So we need to keep imagining our best possible futures, but with a lot more attention to how things will actually work, from logistics and decision-making, and looking at what now works 'well enough' to be worth trying to preserve while building a better society in the face of violence from elites.
