They don’t.

The Israeli government around Netanyahu did a lot of bad things in the past years, but they do not act like a terrorist group. And the state of Israel does not either.

The facts have to be correct, otherwise any moral reasoning is flawed from the start.

This claimed symmetry is a false claim of facts.

If you want people to listen,

I’ll repeat what I said there: being far right is disgusting. Saying this is not an excuse for being far right.

I notice the symmetry of words between the far-right minority in the israeli government and Hamas.

I notice that the original toot tries to construct a false symmetry of words between the general Israeli government and Hamas by using disinformation tactics.

I notice the asymmetry in action: Hamas offense targets civilians and Hamas defense uses civilians as shield while Israeli attacks target Hamas and defense protects civilians. 1/2

Israel had the means, but not the will to kill all civilians in Gaza.
Hamas had the will, but not the means to kill all civilians in Israel.

This was broken: Hamas showed that they are acquiring the means.

And there is no symmetry in action:

Hamas intentionally targets civilians.
Israel targets Hamas.
Hamas creates situations where targeting Hamas also hits civilians, but that does not mean that Israel targets civilians.

They could have killed almost all civilians in Gaza. 4 weeks are enough time that almost no one would have survived.

But they did not.

That is the question you must ask if you claim that there is symmetry.

How many civilians would die if all Hamas fighters would lay down their weapons today and surrender to IDF?

Ökonomie behauptet, etwas aussagen zu können, und blendet dabei gern aus, wie unglaublich komplex es ist, verlässliche Aussagen über ein System zu treffen, bei dem das System die Aussagen mitbekommt und darauf reagiert.

Nicht umsonst sagen Politiker, dass die Hälfte der Wirkung von wirtschaftlichen Maßnahmen Psychologie ist.

@alexl The problem I see in the reply of Musk: To avoid saying that it is targeted harassment to call someone by a label they reject, Musk says that cis is a slur.

The simple answer by Musk that would not have been hostile to trans people would have been to say that not respecting the wish to be misnamed is a slur.

And then rightfully banning all those who harassed.

But for that he would have had to acknowledge the right of trans-people not to be misgendered.

@alexl that he chose to call "cis" a slur unconditionally ("on this platform") instead of noting either "when used like this" or calling out the general mislabeling is circumstantial evidence.

That it is well-known that trans-people are regularly insulted similar to this ("if the roles were reversed") makes it more likely that Musk did this intentionally.

@aral I’m also continuing to work on Freenet / Hyphanet which basically runs "nodes of one", too 🙂 — it’s just that I’m not sure whether that’s actually the best™ approach — and you know: you can’t do a good thing, if it’s not the best™, right? ;-)

(just to not be misunderstood: you totally can, and the notion whats the best may not actually be right, and we’ll only find out when we try to make the approach as good as we can)

@jeremy @aral I disagree with the "instance of one" approach, because I’ve seen how much stronger the bittorrent approach got by having shared infrastructure with forums and moderators.

That shared infrastructure forms a more resilient social fabric than the atomized structure created by the more distributed p2p networks.
