a farmer who primarily makes wool is who i'd ask when it comes to older sheep.

@thatguyoverthere farming these days isn't exactly uneducated. knowing how to use computers can help with how to run a farm.

@thatguyoverthere i sometimes go to maker spaces in Oslo, where they have all sorts of tools to help you craft your own things.

my friend's grandfather owned a farm. he wasn't so impressed by the maker space. said his grandfather had much the same equipment in his shed. which is a good point.

@thatguyoverthere it sounds like you've got plenty to keep you busy, without being overwhelmed. i sometimes wish i had pursued that "career goal" over what i did in my 20s and 30s.

@thatguyoverthere i think that's a tad more "let nature do things" than most of the farmers in Norway do

bit bigger volume so they're probably using industrial fertilisers and such

but there is somewhat less pressure to produce massive amounts of food cheaply here, being a small country and all.

@thatguyoverthere what you're increasingly seeing is small scale farmers selling their properties to bigger farmers and country houses being left empty.

you don't need families in farmhouses anymore so it gets bought up and someone with a machine comes in and farms larger areas of crops.

and someone else farms animals, in places for that.

@thatguyoverthere i think America might be a bit ahead of us in terms of mass-industrialised farming

even much of the EU is. they use a lot more drugs and preservatives and such to produce food in the bigger countries.

the way we run our farms ordinarily here in Norway might be what people from bigger countries describe as "organic"

if we were 50 million and not 5, maybe we'd be doing the same thing, and would be less connected to where food comes from.

@thatguyoverthere you're probably one of the more grounded American persons i know as far as "where does food actually come from and how is it made"

a lot of the ones i talk to online appear more detached from it
