the reason i don't host everything with Amazon or any other single cloud provider

i have gradually come to accept that the dishwasher needs to be run every day even if it's not full. i need clean dishes, pots, pans, utensils and cutlery for the next day.

i do all of my cooking with a grand total of 4 vessels:

- big pot
- medium sauce pan
- small sauce pan
- deep non-stick skillet

the big pot is rarely used, but i bring it out for slow cooking and steaming and such.

the medium sauce pan is for boiling things such as pasta or vegetables.

the small sauce pan is the one i make actual sauces with more often.

the skillet comes out when i'm going to fry something up for a one-pot meal. it's big and deep and comes with a lid, so it can be used for stews.

occasionally, one of the sauce pans is used for stir frying because it takes less space and uses less oil.

i only have two heaters on my cooktop so i have to plan a bit when i cook. in some cases, i've boiled pasta in the microwave to free up space.

i also have an air fryer and the apartment's microwave has a broiler which can be used alone. i also have an electric grill, but it doesn't get used as much.

France's tax revenue is 46.2% of its entire GDP. for Sweden, it's 44%. for the United States, it's 27.1%. for India, it's 18%. for Nigeria, it's 3.6%.

(note: this is not what a wage earner pays in income tax. it's the sum of all taxes that a country collects, divided by its national revenue; the volume of trade.)

the further down the list you get, the lower the taxes are, and the worse off the country is.

i'm not saying that if you just raise the taxes, this will fix everything. but it's an observation...

i have a long list of what one might call minor misfortunes. minor as in not dead, hospitalised, crippled or in chronic pain.

bullied as a kid, diabetes as a teenager, too few friends and lovers, always in debt, not a home/car owner, weight loss surgery, #ASD and #ADHD diagnosed late in life, burnout from software development 3 years ago, bad family relations, now on welfare at age 40, no dreams fulfilled, no future plans, drinking a bit too much.

all things considered, i'm holding up better than one could expect. i think there are people who have killed themselves over less.

the person who helps me get my housework done every week will be here in 15 minutes. i seriously considered cancelling it because i'm not in the mood, but now that i have this free assistance from the government that i myself asked for, i better make use of it.

stew is almost ready

actually had what i'd describe as a "fine" day yesterday.

am i broke and eating struggle food? yes.

do i have a decent real-life social network? no.

am i still single and jobless? yes.

but i was absolutely fine about it. i posted on here, made dinner and some crêpes, watched a movie and then went to sleep.

was it a *great* day? did i accomplish anything? no. but it was perfecly fine.

documentation used to come in these giant stacks of dead trees called books, but now we get angry if there isn't any hypertext

@thatguyoverthere @limepeep i made a whole thread about that earlier. you may have missed it. i don't remember if you responded.

today's dinner was very food rations based.

* brown rice
* roux made on canola, flour, chicken broth, rosemary, lime juice, sugar and pepper
* fried chopped frankfurters

mixed together in a stew. no veggies, so it's a bit basic, but it made me full. i'm not exactly gonna starve.

keep this in mind: the people of Gaza voted for a party (Hamas) whose explicit goal is to destroy all Jews.

a democratic election is what produced that.

of course the Jews are not going to like that.
