@coldacid It's a non-profit and the main goal is job coaching, so it doesn't have to be a success. But that also makes it feel kind of pointless, like a school assignment or a hobby project. No one actually wants your work output. It also means that the ambition level can't be high. No screening/recruitment process, so it can't be too hard.

The game development team at the job coaching space is using Godot as the game engine. Just sat in on a meeting about parallax scrolling and how to do that in Godot.

You'd think I'd be more interested in it as a software developer with 13 years of experience, but I felt indifferent about it.

I was in another meeting just now about potential projects to work on within software development. It sounded like a very standard web app project to me. Booking system for seats that they want to redesign. Again a feeling of indifference.

@coldacid Yeah, it's not up to me to choose the engine. I wasn't a part of that decision process, and I'm not sure how much I could have influenced it anyway. Everything here is design by committee.

Having a demanding pet, I think it trains your self control. Having children would have the same effect, wouldn't it?

Domino's Pizza should charge less, considering the quality of their product. They have competitors here in Norway who make equally good or better pizza at the same cost. It's not bad, but it's not great either. It's just standard takeout pizza. 🍕

@coin I can be a little rough on my own possessions at times. I go through keyboards and eyeglasses at an alarmingly high tempo, for example. I keep spilling things on the keyboards and having little accidents with the eyeglasses. My head is always somewhere else than on exactly where everything is located and the exact details of things. I'm bad with names. Sometimes wasteful with money but also generous with it and my time.

@coin I don't actively seek to destroy it exactly but care and maintenance never came very easily to me, so I get a bit irritated when people nag about it. If people remind me, I do it, but it's definitely more of a thing I do as a compromise to calm people's nerves more than something I have internalised.

It's probably true that if you own property, you have more respect for other people's property, because you're fellow property owners.

As someone who can't afford property and is milked for money by a property owner every month, my empathy is a TAD more limited...

@matrix The amount of e-waste that is produced from charger cables alone probably amounts to several tons per year.

@matrix I've heard people complain about USB ones too. Charger cables are just shit in general.

These shitty charger cables never last. I don't think this one even lasted for a year.

The whole idea of "war crime" is a bit of a lie. War IS the crime.

@roboneko @pomstan @coolboymew Both are sold as snus here and one often substitutes for the other. The nicotine pouches are sometimes called fully white snus. It's not about the exact substance but how it's used.

@roboneko @pomstan @coolboymew There is also a catch to the nicotine pouches. They can't legally be completely tobacco free here in Norway. If they were, it would be considered a different product category legally speaking, and you wouldn't be able to buy it OTC. They must therefore contain a trace amount of tobacco. The Swedes introduced the nicotine pouches and there, it's legal to sell pure ones OTC. You can't buy these products in the rest of the EU. No new tobacco or nicotine products are to be introduced. Sweden has an exemption because it was already on the market and in common use before they joined the EU. Norway isn't in the EU, so it doesn't need the exemption, but policies about not introducing new products are similar to that of the EU.

@roboneko @pomstan @coolboymew And yes, this does have the somewhat fucked up effect of making it easier to get hold of the more harmful product. Because the general idea is "please don't use these at all".

Statistics for smoking ("røyker") and snus ("snuser") in Norway over the past 20 years. Many quit smoking, but a good number just switched to snus instead - tobacco or nicotine-infused cotton in a small bag, placed under the upper lip.
