everybody listens to metal but this sounds more like heavy rock, and i like the tempo, and the clarity and punch of the mix.

do any modern bands even make music like this?

@freemo i budget and adapt to whatever income i have. i could be very strict, but it's not pleasant for me. i want to have a nice life now, not later. later does not feel real to me until it is now.

i think that if you are wired in a way where such long term thinking is not what you're motivated for, this should not rob you of benefits, because this is just how you are, after all. you had no decision in it, so why should you have less than the rich person?

i'm often broke but i invested in a pair of these. i've seen them in fairly serious recording studios.

also, when you're new to audio production

i'm going to give some bad advice here, but if you care about good audio

maybe spend a bit more on the nicer monitors and have noodles for a few weeks. they'll last a long time.

i'm living on very little right now but i have VERY nice audio for everything because i lived on noodles a few years back.

as a rough rule

one-time investments are not where you should be saving the money.

those little things you spend on everyday is what empties your bank account all the time.

you're not gonna be rich by saving on daily expenses however. i think you can spend on those.

the thing is that when you happen to have more, invest in something.

a trip to visit a good friend is an investment. buying a new instrument to explore your musical abilities is also an investment. those last a long time, so they're an investment into your happiness. any wife who doesn't get this should shut up.

today, i learned about a new and painful form of friend zoning.

the typical form of friend zoning goes like this: you meet a girl that you like "like that" and she likes you too, but not "like that", and if you continue talking to her despite that, you're in the friend zone.

the new and more painful version: her words say no, but her actions say yes, so you get intimate and form a close bond... but she still doesn't like you "like that". you're a close friend, with benefits, but she doesn't love you. you're not the one.

this isn't always so deliberate. feelings can develop in one person but less so in the other. since there is an emotional attachment, contact is kept up. but since it's unequal, one person will always feel neglected and unhappy.

thinking back to other women i've been with, i'm not entirely convinced they were serious either. unlike her, they did tell me they loved me. but they weren't committed to making it work.

this girl was different, because there was serious commitment to the friendship, and there was intimacy, but she put down the brake pedal firmly at the slightest sign of escalation. it was completely non-negotiable.

it doesn't work for me. if there is such serious commitment plus intimacy, that means i'm in love with her, and the only thing missing to make her my girlfriend is loyalty.

CEOs expect programmers to work 8 hour days but i don't get how people keep that up over time. my brain poops out halfway through the day and then i want a nap. if my brain is an engine, it's an engine that's prone to overheating if you run it for too long.

with stuff like Linux, it asks you to make an investment in time and effort instead of money as with Apple. it's an expense no matter how you view it. something has to be endured to make Linux work just right for you, but same with Apple stuff. just different forms of payment.
