New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Sunday, 17-Nov-2024 13:36:22 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 @icedquinn I can respect that. I went through a Rand phase a few years back, I stand by The Fountainhead as being a genuinely great book that functions as both a vehicle for Objectivist philosophy and a compelling story on its own. Atlas Shrugged is just too damn bloated though, I got through it, but I understand why a lot of people just can't finish it; you really need to be at least 60% with her in order to get into it, and the fact that her self-insert character is sexually irresistible to every major male character in the book is telling of the sheer size of her ego (which I think she would consider a compliment).
That said, I think "the charity question," is pretty cleanly explained in AS, basically charity is only immoral if you're giving against your interests, if you're donating to a charity that will ultimately lead to a long term benefit for you in some way that's still kosh (EG: donating to a homeless shelter because having people sleeping in the streets is bad for business, so you're ultimately helping yourself by helping other people).
That's all semantics though, I agree that Objectivism and Libertarianism should be viewed as parallel, but separate ideologies. -

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Sunday, 25-Aug-2024 05:31:33 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 Also, while I haven't played it, I'm very morbidly curious to try Other M, since I've always wondered why they seemed to just give up on the idea of a 3D Third person Metroid game after that one.

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Sunday, 25-Aug-2024 05:29:07 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 Yeah, that's about what I remember about the press when it was first announced, people were scared Nintendo/Retro Studios were going to turn Metroid into Halo or something.
Most of that worry died when the game actually came out and it was still a proper Metroidvania game, just adjusted to an FPS perspective and a 3D map; which I think turned out very well overall. There are certain things that didn't translate too well, they kept a lot of the platforming aspect of Metroid, and they didn't make the jump to first person too well; judging distance with the grapple beam is probobly the worst offender. -
New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Sunday, 25-Aug-2024 04:57:21 JST New World Indigo Just finished Metroid Prime 1 for the first time (Wii version).
I first played this game on the Gamecube when I was about 13. I could never get past the Omega Pirate.
Good game. I think it's admirable that despite the change to a first person shooter presentation it's still very unmistakably a Metroid game.
Finishing a game you couldn't finish as a kid is a very uniquely fulfilling experience, I don't have that many left at this point, so it's becoming an increasingly rare one for me...

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2024 12:53:20 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 That's fair, the whole "Sonic vs. Mario," conversation was already well past its stage of relevancy by the time 2007 rolled around, Sonic games had already been multiplatform for a long time at that point.
Hell, I'm going to be 30 in two months and I'm barely old enough to remember the Sega/Nintendo rivalry.
It was mostly for the Gen Xers who grew up in the 80's that the novelty worked for. Console wars in general just weren't really much of a thing past gen 6, so I can't really see the appeal in a modern context. -
New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2024 12:16:20 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 I remember when the very first one for Beijing 2008 came out and the novelty was still fresh (this was before Smash Bros. Brawl for context), and even then everyone acknowledged it sucked. -

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Thursday, 09-May-2024 14:37:26 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 I tend to prefer option B, just because I feel it lends the series less rigidity and more towards experimentation with subsequent entries, keeps things fresh, if only on a surface level. Also it gives each character the ability to have an arc with a definitive "end," even if they end up being a supporting character in a subsequent entry their role in that story could be completely different (plus you don't run into the problem of "character fatigue," as easily). -
New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Sunday, 05-May-2024 13:27:11 JST New World Indigo I have decided that I need to move back to the city (not the one I moved here from, but A city).
I've tried making this whole middle of nowhere thing work, I tried to rationalize that the lower cost of living, lower taxes, and lighter traffic were pluses that outweighed the negatives, but this is just not me.
I am bored as hell, there's nowhere to go, I miss being able to walk everywhere, I miss my hipster record stores, I miss my overpriced coffee, I miss feeling there's always more to explore, I miss being able to just go to concerts without having to make travel plans, I miss the hustle and bustle of city life.
My job is in-office, but everyone I work with is on the other side of the state, so I for all intents and purposes get all the negatives of working from home with none of the benefits (or the "home" part). It's also way too easy and I'm bored all the time. I can *feel* my social skills regressing from not exercising them enough.
Plus I have no friends or family here, I have only really made one of the former (and they're thinking about moving), and I can just tell every person who I come in contact with can smell that I don't belong here and treats me as such.
I have concluded that I will die an urbanite by nature and nothing will ever change that no matter how hard I force it. Lease is up in four more months. Guess it's time to start looking.

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 10:13:53 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 Eh, there's been academic papers written about everything at this point. I don't doubt there's stupid pro-choice people out there for a second, any less than I acknowledge that there's a lot of very smart, educated, and informed pro-life people out there.
I'm still pro-choice, and I can't think of a situation in which my mind changes about that, but the idea of "post-birth-abortion," is total cartoon-logic nonsense, and sounds to me like some "slippery slope" bullshit peddled by extremist pro-lifers. -
New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Apr-2024 09:47:40 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 I don't seriously believe any genuine pro-choice person believes in that, and any that do have missed the point by a massive amount.
I could see them being fed plants intended to sow division, just like those supposed "pro-life" people who go around saying women should be executed for having abortions.
The whole issue glows on both sides these days. :glowinthedark: -
New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Friday, 19-Apr-2024 10:10:46 JST New World Indigo @xianc78 @LukeAlmighty I can respect that, I played Fallout 3 first too, and I was in the same boat as you, I'd never played a game like that before and it blew my mind at the time.
New Vegas, in my opinion, was a whole other level to me though. I won't bore you with another New Vegas gush-fest because I'm sure you've heard it, but I liked it. A LOT.
But dude, play Fallout 1 and 2. They are old and janky games, and they are going to take some getting used to. I always recommend using Per Jorner's "Nearly Ultimate Fallout Guide" (it's on the wiki) you're first time through the first game, because there's a few things about the game that I think some players need to have given to them, but trust me, it's worth it. Once you're in that world, those first two games are like nothing else out there.
Take it from someone who played Fallout 1 *after* 3 and New Vegas, and now considers the former to be both his favorite in the series, and one of his favorite games overall. -
New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Friday, 19-Apr-2024 09:30:09 JST New World Indigo @LukeAlmighty @xianc78 I probobly will at some point too, I usually play a Fallout game every summer, so I think Tactics can be up next.
