all sales at this point are basically funneled straight into #KitsuneTails development so by buying my other games you're directly supporting kitsune tails too
remembering my father back in the 90s and how he would play pinball games on the computer, and reflexively shove the keyboard all the time because that's what he was used to from real pinball machines
"real name" policies are evidence that there are people in charge who have never moved to another country
you wanna know what my real name is? according to whomst, exactly? hell in the US various federal orgs couldn't even agree on what my name was supposed to be. no, scratch that, even the social security administration, internally, couldn't agree on what my name was and changed it like 4 times over a 6 year stay
@mcc@Gargron as someone who wants to be discoverable but not opt in to full text search I wholeheartedly agree. Nothing beneficial to me comes out of full text search, just spam and harassment. So if both of these are on one setting then I have a problem, because I can no longer do what I want, which was something I could do previously and which was working out for me just fine
"Tech experts are starting to doubt that ChatGPT and A.I. ‘hallucinations’ will ever go away: ‘This isn’t fixable’"
whoa no shit sherlock it's a statistical model that composes answers that are statistically probable, not factual. it's almost like all it does is put a bunch of words that look like an answer next to each other and has zero grasp of what a fact even is conceptually
@AmyZenunim yeah i feel like people who are like "mastodonians are so mean, dont they know how hard it is" are kinda forgetting that it was hard for us too, especially when bunches of our friends were like "nah mastodon smells bad im gonna keep hanging out at the nazi bar sorry loser"
Really feel like mastodon's design doesn't prioritize protecting users from the actions of a malicious admin enough. If the pitch is "if the admin tries to burn things down then you can move" then for that pitch to work it can't be that an admin can torch everything before you have time to react
Yes, they can always take the instance down immediately and in its entirety, but thats not what I'm talking about. But hey actually, if that happens there should still be a way to recover and move your account
EDIT: "make backups" is not a solution because the most valuable part of a social graph is people who follow you, and those *cannot be backed up*
One thing I don't see discussed in this is that .art is full of artists. A lot of freelance artists suffered greatly when Elon torched Twitter. And the fediverse told them, come here, you'll be safe, we'll take care of you. And they came and rebuilt the audiences they need to survive
So if an admin of a large instance defederates in the heat of the moment it's not just a bit of social graph people lose. Some artists almost certainly took a real, quantifiable financial hit out of this. After they were told the fediverse was safe. How is this a remotely acceptable outcome?
Reminder that fascists believe whatever is convenient for their goals at the time and are utterly unbothered by people pointing out inconsistencies or hypocrisy in their actions, statements, policies, or ideology
can't believe people keep saying they can use AI for code. out of morbid curiosity i've tried a couple times and i've never gotten anything usable out of it. feels like anything for which there isn't just a copy/pastable stack overflow answer it won't help with, and if there's an SO answer then you can literally just google it and copy and paste it. what is this code that people are writing with AI? i really wanna know
