He really plays up the "Appalachian Hillbilly" turned lawyer angle. He grew up in Middletown, which is hardly hillbilly territory (honestly West Cincinnati has more Appalachian people. West Cincinnati's drop out rates were so high in the 2010s they closed most of their high schools and the kids that wanted to graduate were bused to the other side of the city).
I know a lawyer who grew up in the 90s in bumble fuck Tennessee with Appalachia people and his family was so poor they didn't have running water. He thinks Vance is a total poser ... but a lawyer calling another lawyer a liar is like winning the special olympics so .. :blobcatgooglyshrug:
Vance is connected to Thiel? ... shouldn't really be surprised. Thiel was one of the original backers of Facebook (FB launched the day after DARPA shut down the Digital Life Log project ... or maybe just re-branded it). Thiel also backs Rumble and founded Palantir (a company that sells domestic spy software to dozens of world governmnets), attends Bilderberg and is one of the members of "The PayPal Mafia."
It's also the side we'll never know. Movies/books/comics train us that there is a reveal at the end (well if the series don't get cancelled) that explains things.
In real life, we will never really have a full explanation for JFK. I like CIA with the shooter in the sewer idea best, but we'll never really know. Long after America is gone, the next State will question what was real, just like people today question if Nero really started a fire and blamed it on the Christians.
Media has a training effect. Someone getting an ear shot off and living happens all the time in the movies. You get some CIA people to replicate it in real life and people just believe it.
I kinda thought of something else too. I remember there was someone on a pol sperging forum yonks back saying he didn't think Trump could be killed (believed he was divinely protected). Maybe the CIA really did plan on killing him, so they could replace both puppets in August. What if Trump wasn't in on it, and this was an op gone wrong? Like the patsy actually did miss?
It's really impossible to tell at this point if this guy was a genuine ideologically hell bent leftist, or a CIA/MKUltra pawn ... and if he was a pawn, did he mess up, or does the CIA like Trump now and that was a perfect shot?
So many questions. Doesn't matter. Take Trumps photo, put it on a t-shirt titled "Freedom Survives!" or some shit. Bam, instant $50k. You're welcome.
I'm really weary about the entire field of psychology/psychiatry these days. When I was younger, my father forced me to go to therapy for my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (hand washing, nothing to do with germs, several times an hour; would try out and crack my hands). I didn't really see a problem with it and just wish people would leave me alone. One center recommended getting the whole family in for group. My dad took me somewhere else that would just give me drugs. I don't think he wanted to see himself as the problem.
All the drugs sucked. I hated them. Lots of side-effected. Tired all the time. Thankfully I never improved and came off all of them and got my dad to just fucking stop before high school.
In University I tried therapy on my own. I'd state my OCD as the reason, because I didn't want to admit to the depression. One doc was a quick fixer; wanted as few sessions as possible. Another girl cancelled three appointments in a row and I stopped rescheduling.
I had one and only one decent shrink in my life. It was just for a summer, she helped expose bad patterns in my thinking, and I think my outlook on the world changed significantly. She still pushed drugs even though I said I didn't like them, and I stopped talking the SSRIs once when I got so woozy I wrecked a car in a ditch (first and only totaled vehicle that was my fault. There was one other where a woman ran a stop sign).
All that being said, one of my best friends is bipolar/schizo-effective. Two years back everyone got really worried about him cause he stopped talking his meds, started showing up unannounced at peoples' houses, had friends call the sheriff multiple times on him. He was totally apologetic after; defending none of this actions. He said he could see how crazy he got in retrospect, and felt deeply ashamed. One pill, one anti-psychotic, is all that keeps him from being a normal guy to being paranoid and unable to hold a job.
There are a few people who need medical intervention, but the vast majority do not. What's especially troubling are parents who send their kids to therapy, which likely causes all types of problems that normally wouldn't arise (see Joe Rogan #2109 with Abigail Shrier; who just wrote a book on the issues with child therapy).
Just out of principal, eh? There are torrent sites that have ISOs of tons of PS5 games, even though less than half of them are playable .. in hopes of the day we get a full PS5+hypervisor hack on current firmware.
PS5 is only hackable on Firmware 3/4 and there isn't a hypervisor hack, so you'll have to wait until the PC release (where you can just patch out their shitty censorship). I played it uncensored on disc without an Internet connection, but you have to get an update in order to get NewGame+ 😡
The sad thing is, it's actually a pretty good game. I gave it a 73/100:
Part of it makes sense. The "Word of God," among modern evangelicals, is considered true and inerrant. John 1 talks about "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God"
Modern Christianity/Evangelicals won't acknowledge it, and will fight you if you say it, but their ideology does create a quadrinity. The scripture itself is viewed as God. Orthodox/hardcore-Catholics will go as far as to say protestants believe the Bible is interpreted individualistic via the Spirit as guidance, where as classically the Bible was not to be re-interpreted for individual life decisions. The modern evangelical often claims they have a "relationship with God," and state it "isn't a religion, but a relationship" (very similar to the transgender movement, except replace "relationship" with "science" or rationality).
I'm not sure why all the stuff at the bottom is pointing to the son though, or why the Bible = Son on the Calvinist side.
I'm always confused with these articles. So it's a "real-woman" who wanted to be a fake-man, right? ... Female double homicides and mass shootings are pretty rare, so I guess it's good we're finally getting some equal representation! We still need more female serial killers though.
How do you get non-tech people to care? That's not "cynicism," it's just the reality. I stopped trying to get non-tech people to try Linux back before 2010. If people want it, they'll demand it.
I run my own e-mail, my own Matrix/XMPP servers, my own CardDav/CalDav (radicale), my own website and this instance. I have zero Google/Apple services on my phone (Lineage + FDroid/Auora). But the 90% is not you or me. Some people are upset about the way things are, but none of them know what to do about it, and even fewer feel they have the time to learn how to break away from what the megacorps offer for cheap.
I write tutorials whenever I can, but it's not like blogs show up on Google anymore. Hell, my website is shadow banned from Hackernews and most of Reddit, and explicitly banned from Ello, Lobsters and phuks.co.
The goal of all media is to limit the reach of the individual. This video is from over a decade ago about network neutrality. What they say about newspapers/radio is true, but I do think they miss the bigger picture of what has happened:
I did get a bunch of friends to sign up for my old Mastodon instance back in 2018. A small amount of them even used it for a few years. But I doubt any of them do now.
It's up do individuals to make a difference in their own life. I'm not wasting my time advertising, or being anyone's tech support.
Do what you can. But don't overly concern yourself with it. None of this matters. What you do in real life on the weekends with your friends: going to plays, seeing local bands, hanging out with your friends, having BBQs, making time for your family, working in your garden .. all those things matter than any of this shit.

djsumdogI think the power supply in my main Linux workstation is going out. I knew motherboard prices were going crazy cause .... ... gamer 😡 ... but it looks like PSUs are going the same way. You use to be able to find a 600w modular for under $100 just 2~3 years ago.
The shift away from open standards did not hurt these companies in the slightest, and only benefited them. StackOverflow, whose community is most developers, had less than a 2% OpenID usage. Mozilla Persona wasn't ahead of it's time, it was a regression to the mean; a project Mozilla gave up on just like they gave up on ... not being a total piece of shit company that forced resignations of a Christian because of his private religious beliefs.
Do you really think any new federation signon system will catch on, outside of truly open source distributed projects? In the 90s they might have, but today, we have way too many commies who have personal missions to push Code-of-conducts and documentation changes in projects they've never written a single line of code for. The frothing morons on Hackernews will praise such people (the ones who don't are banned) and we watch everything turn to shit under a blanket of ideological luxury beliefs.
I don't want to be negative. I want to believe. But my negative comes from what I've seen with my own eyes. It's a moral panic that is not going away. It will only grow like a cancer.
