    @p The ruling stratum was once instinctively opposed to life extension for various reasons. As it is a very difficult problem the lack of venture capital doomed even the attempt in the short term.

    I've mentioned Drexler and nanotech recently. I've seen the culture shift 180 from when Engines of Creation was released. Now AI, nanotech and life extension are the primary goals of billionaires like Peter Thiel. If a viable path can be demonstrated the cash is going to flood in.

    So if you want mankind to avoid developing it (assuming it can be developed at all) you need to become a fascist and ban it.

    Little speculation.

    Assume that the 100 trillion calculations per second / 20 gig of working memory estimate of the human brain's computational power is correct.

    That means a Nvidia AI workstation has the capacity to run 25 brains. Call it 24 to leave one brain worth of CPU cycles for the meta-OS.

    The stand-alone version costs $149,000 and maxes out at 1500w of power. It has a self contained liquid cooling system that requires no special refreshing. This machine has been out for over three years and there is no backlash complaining about coolant leaks so that's probably true.

    Bottom line is you're paying $6208 per brain, plus the electric bill and the salary of an admin to keep the machine updated and in good working order.

    The Great Forced Retirement might be closer than you think.

    @dubbub @TrevorGoodchild Two of those stand out in my mind as they became so notorious and raised so many alarms that Youtube had to kick them. One was a channel with dozens of very well made animations with schizo themes - double pregnant Spider-Man vs. Elsa is one I recall - and eventually the creator of the channel was found to be a registered sex offender and memory holed.

    The other was a single father with two or three daughters who had the most severe pedoface imaginable and the mannerisms of that tranny freak who destroyed Bud Light. He was eventually deemed abusive for setting up fake 'funniest home videos' situations and banned.
