How do you know you have failed utterly as at #design and need to reconsider your choices?

Someone thought they were being über-modern, didn't they?

I turned on my grandmother's old flip phone a few months back and got hit with a wave of -- not nostalgia, but realizing how much better even a stupid T9 keyboard is to a touchscreen-only device.

LisPi (lispi314@mastodon.top)'s status on Friday, 17-Feb-2023 03:04:24 JST LisPi @alcinnz @RL_Dane @prometheus They do have some interesting advantages for sealed units.
But those advantages can be replicated in larger units with tactile feedback as well, but at somewhat higher part cost (hence the rarity) and with better repairability (hence the industry entirely ignoring that).
There were some ideas for tactile feedback in touchscreens as well but I don't think anything has materialized since.

Lorenzo (ranfdev@linuxrocks.online)'s status on Friday, 17-Feb-2023 06:01:44 JST Lorenzo @alcinnz @RL_Dane @prometheus and some car manufacturers now want to ditch touchscreens too! They want to make you interact with the car using AR glasses and virtual buttons.

Such a joke

I think it was a samsung galaxy something like this. My favourite phone I ever had. I had it for years. Was sad to upgrade it when it got too old. 😔

Josh (krnlg@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 20-Feb-2023 03:58:49 JST Josh @RL_Dane @alcinnz @prometheus It might just be nostalgia but while my touchscreen keyboard input kinda feels faster, it also feels like i have to go back and correct all the time which makes it frustrating. I got pretty fast with my old T9 phones, it wasnt a bad system really! Problem with touchscreens is if you aren't looking directly at the keyboard you end up drifting out of position and making mistakes...
