     actually I believe (just from skimming the twitter thread) that those tanks were in danger of detonating due to surrounding fires so the "quick and dirty" disposal option was to puncture them and burn the contents in a controlled manner in a nearby trench

     Heard about this and didn’t look into it. Did they have a cause for derailment? If it was WA I would assume Antifa and related groups. They do it all the time.
