   Someone sent this to me when it posted and I chuckled at the boomerism before moving on with my life.

   But it keeps coming back to me, that this guy actually, truly thinks that he can look kids in the eye today and say "well okay so the average pay is like, twenty thousand a year and you're stuck at sea with a bunch of foreigners all the time, but one day - ONE BLESSED DAY - an old boomer might look you in the eye, shake your hand, and thank you for your service"

     Honestly if you're dumb, gullible, or naive enough to abandon a lucrative, pretty enjoyable career (many white dudes in the skies compared to pretty much every other hands-on job) then you don't belong in that seat anyways.

     @deprecated_ii Yeah, I used to know a kid who looked at doing it post USN. He ended up on cruise ships instead. Every guy in the space basically says our system is completely worthless, even in 2005 they were freaking out saying the system was too broken to actually fulfill its mission back then.

     Unless they magically increased pay (they have not) then there's absolutely nothing there for anyone with a brain. Maybe the guys who have to choose between that or prison, though?

     A military career in the Roman Empire was a means of political and social advancement. More than a few emperors got into power by just being the one with an army backing him. The Roman Empire lasted 4 centuries (6 in the west if you count the republic); the American Empire will be lucky if it makes it to 200.

     What was he trying to sell anyways? Fame and recognition are just as important as any other part of a functioning armada. Ernst Jung opens his book talking about how his brothers in arms knew nothing of the war, but they joined for the adventure, for the thrill, to become the heroes they thought they were (and they weren't wrong). I think op is just trying to sell war propaganda from the pov of a white goyim and that's why it's so weird
