@Takuya I hope whoever came up with the idea to force chromium browsers to convert downloaded images to their shitty webp format instead of downloading the original JPG/PNG image dies the most agonizing death imaginable.
@Azur_Fenix@Takuya >Brave is a free and open-source web browser developed by Brave Software, Inc. based on the Chromium web browser. >based on the Chromium web browser.
@Azur_Fenix@Takuya Not all websites do this (yet). Those Fandom wikis are an example of forcing the shitty webp format down your throat against your will. If the server detects you use a chromium browser, you're getting the shitty webp file instead of the original.
@Vidmastereon@Tamamo@Azur_Fenix It's already so annoying with seemingly every second application being an electron application these days, so google also dictates what standards offline applications can support.
Their Play Protect blacklisting lineageos bullshit i posted earlier made me realize how you can not escape their bullshit. Not even rooting your phone will get around this blacklisting. You have to flash a new kernel and pray it won't get blacklisted next.
Oh yeah, this blacklisting is on top of fingerprinting. Where the Play Protect system looks at the maximum official supported Android version your phone supports and if there's a mismatch it will immediately trips the device_intergrity mismatch as well.
Android might be open source but at the same time jewgle declared total jihad on custom roms to make your live as miserable as possible if you have the audacity to use one to get more mileage out of your phone when the manufacturer stops supporting it.
Fuck jewgle. Everyone working there deserves the rope.
@DarkMahesvara@Azur_Fenix@Takuya@Vidmastereon If the check doesn't pass the app won't even start even if you sideload it and when i tried to disable google app services to bypass the check the app just crashes at launch.
I spend hours today trying to find a way around this bullshit because if my banking app starts requiring this check i'm fucked and have to buy some new cheap piece of shit *just* to be able pay my fucking bills. Long live this dystopian hellscape. :awoo_party:
From what i understood looking into this, jewgle has really stepped up its war against custom roms recently. Spoofed fingerprinting keys are getting banned left and right the past few weeks.
On top of this they will also disable their old app 'safetynet' app "security" system by 2025 and force devs to use this one.
@Tamamo@Takuya@Azur_Fenix@Vidmastereon just don't install the play store root kit or at least use them sandboxed like with GrapheneOS where they have no access to that information
'Basic' being pretty much the old check from what i understood 'Device' only passes on a stock kernel 'Strong' doesn't allow ANY modifications to your rom. Even having your bootloader unlocked will trip this.
And you can bet your ass jewgle is "encouraging" app developers to check all 3 integrity level requirements in the name of "security".
I've read that some German banking apps already demand 'strong' and refuse to run on lineage OS because of the unlocked bootloader. So in the name of "security" they have reflash to stock and run an older unsupported OS just to use their fucking banking app. Thanks jewgle.
@Tamamo@Azur_Fenix@Takuya@Vidmastereon from what i understand they plan to fully replace safetynet in the future with hardware attestation. technically this allows a 3rd party OS to pass verification but it probably needs to be whielisted by the app devs(/google?) and pass some security checks which might exclude devices that are rooted or have unlocked boot loader. secure boot 2.0 but on an even more locked down system
@fluffy@Azur_Fenix@Takuya@Tamamo@Vidmastereon i simply point out how a door lock works. if you don't own your door lock obviously you have a problem but that does not make door locks inherently evil. it should just tell you to not use that specific door or anything that requires it
@DarkMahesvara Nice deflection, but we're not talking about a pre-existing lock, we're talking about the governing body of locks requiring certification of your locks; in turn, necessitating your keys be made available to that governing body by way of all locks being made by that governing body.
There's no analog to make this acceptable, it's regular bad.
@fluffy@Azur_Fenix@Takuya@Tamamo@Vidmastereon rather ironic that google is one of the few phone manufacturer that still allows unlocking AND locking the door with your own keys
@DarkMahesvara@Azur_Fenix@Takuya@Vidmastereon@fluffy In the other page you just linked their asking their users to beg app developers NOT to enforce the stock only options in the play integrity API (device/strong_integrity). :wat:
In other words this will effect gravene os as well.
