i am having an extremely good time rn because i have a working blender 2.79 again on my MNT Reform (with A311D cpu). it is very snappy to work in and renders quickly on this machine. i can't use 2.80+ versions of blender because panfrost does not support geometry shaders, but 2.79 already has more than enough bells and whistles to keep me busy learning 3d stuff for a long time, i think ^^

minute (mntmn@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 10-Feb-2024 23:21:29 JST minute the way that i got this to work is extremely hacky btw. i'm on debian and i downloaded and extracted the blender-2.7-es2-2.79b binary package from manjaro, and checked for missing libraries with `ldd blender-2.7 | grep "not found"`. then i just clobbered together the missing libs from various rpms and tars i found with pkgs.org, and set a local LD_LIBRARY_PATH, until all deps were satisfied.

minute (mntmn@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 11-Feb-2024 21:36:32 JST minute @pandora blender since 2.80 needs geometry shaders, which are not supported by panfrost nor etnaviv.
in the future it might be possible on rk3588 if panthor implements vulkan one day or with qcs6490 and freedreno/turnip. or with vulkan support on rpi 5, not sure if that works though.
