Can someone please bring back smartphones with plastic screens? Why isn't it a thing anymore? Why glass? Why the fragile glass? Plastic doesn't break so easily

Patryk (pgronkievitz@wspanialy.eu)'s status on Wednesday, 07-Feb-2024 06:25:03 JST Patryk @kuba it doesn't break, but
1. It gets matte
2. Scratches easily
3. Screen protectors can break the screen with their glue (adhesives can bind the screen chemically)
4. IMO it's awful in touch (and I think oleophobic layer wasn't as popular, but I don't know whether it was technological problem or cost-cutting) -

My friend worked at electronics shop and had absolutely the worst experience with replacing screen protectors from plastic screens. It's almost impossible to take off from the screen and then it's often cloudy (cleaning with IPA doesn't help)

I hate screen protectors and refuse to use them. I'd rather have the glass cracked half the time with pieces of glass falling out than touch the phone through these abominations. -

I haven't done extensive testing, there might be a comfortable option out there and I may already have some bias, I don't know. Case protectors seem to do a better job protecting the screen (from cracking on drops etc.) for me anyway.
(And yes, there is a condom joke there, which I'm very self-congratulatory for not making.)
