   I give up, I'll have to do the less cute thing and just let her pick, because I'm now realizing these are all extremly polarizing and she probably won't like most options. If I haven't seen these before there's probably a reason - they look like tattoos or eczema from afar

     @haberdasher We need to appreciate their work, though. Women are knitting & weaving less across the board, but I've always been sad to see how apathetic the husbands, sons, etc are to get something handmade. You gotta use it no matter how silly, froofy, or ugly it is

     Man only one of my aunts knits now and im the only one who sews anymore, it's a shame because I would love to get handmade stuff and when I do they usually become my most treasured items.

     @Wisconsin_Kraut @haberdasher Ours have either aged out or passed. My sister is pretty good at it but she doesn't like doing big projects. I've dated a couple crafty girls though, and the overriding pattern has been "I made these cute hats for everybody but nobody ever wears them, it makes me sad!"

     Meanwhile I fight to steal every last handmade thing in the family. Grandma used to embroider every towel, doily, adn dust ruffle with these cute little characters she doodled, her kids used to have them growing up but now they seem lost to time. A small piece of ephemera, probably thrown out by gen Xers thinking "ew, these are so ooooollllddd, I'll use this cute little chinese one instead!"

     @Wisconsin_Kraut @WashedOutGundamPilot I can sew on a button or repair a small tear (functional, but low quality), but that's the extent of my needlework skills.
     
     My mother can sew quilts and has made several for the extended family.

     @Wisconsin_Kraut @haberdasher I know my sis got some big complex machine for christmas one year but it's like the WMD of sewing appliances, it's somehow so complex nobody has found a task to requisition to her that's important enough to warrant threading up all 16 thread bobbins

     @Wisconsin_Kraut @haberdasher Yeah but you make your own gear. The only stuff I ever sew is small scale repairs or tweaks, infrequently enough I have to re-learn the sewing machine each time I break it out
