@JedKron1248 Every genx and boomer parent seems to tell me about their "gifted" son with a crestfallen tone, always shagging on how the kid lacks "work ethic" while describing how the guy "works too much at his dead end job".
They never believe me when I say the guys are struggling to survive, and all they need is the right track to excel in. Instead they think it's all 1975 still, and you can just work your way up the chain of promotion.

@haberdasher @JedKron1248 That's what I try to explain to them. Work is no longer rewarded by guarantee, in fact seeing a 1:1 return on the effort you put in is the exception, not the rule.
They can't understand it, they lived in the before-times, so even the ones that kinda understand diversity initiatives and HR-run companies believe that all you gotta do is just "push through it!!!" by somehow forcing your hand and making the system bend to your will.
"Oh, the company only takes online apps? Well just go park over there in their lobby and DON'T YOU LEAVE UNTIL THEY HIRE YOU!!!! Oh they expelled you with security? Who cares, just go DO THE SAME TO THEIR COMPETITOR DOWN THE STREET. AGAIN??!?! Just keep doing that until someone hires you!!!!"

@skylar @JedKron1248 Just talk to them about the messages you got as a kid. It's all about "do what's best for you", at least that's what the women, browns, nigs, etc. get. Still, the boomers expect white boys to abide by the 1950 societal contract and jump on the funeral pyre in sacrifice for all the rest.
Telling them "I'm taking the system at its word, if it tells everyone to be selfish and live for themselves, then that's what I'll do. They're very clear that I can expect nothing from them, I'll return it"
