@haberdasher @sjw Sports channels are always a la carte or on their own package for a massive price
-
@haberdasher are sports included in that list?
-
@sjw I'm not entirely sure -- but I doubt it.
I don't have cable TV service myself, and a quick check of the website, I'm not seeing this "Pick 15" package.
I know my Boomer Unit has a paper copy of the channels that are available to choose from (i know it includes Fox News, HGTV, and stuff like ... Hallmark Movies), but I'd bet that ESPN is not one of them. Although I imagine those channels can be added a la carte for an additional (exorbitant) fee.
-
@sjw it's not literally "ANY 15 CHANNELS YOU WANT" (i.e. HBO or international channels), but a list of some 30-40 channels and you can pick up to 15 of those.
-
@sjw my Boomer Unit has a "Pick 15" package from her cable provider that she seems to be reasonably satisfied with.
-
@haberdasher wait you can just pick any 15 channels?
-
@sjw Boomers should be restricted to:
> rotary telephones
> newspapers & magazines
> AM/FM/CD radios
> television
they are wholly incapable of handling anything more complicated.
-
@haberdasher my parents switched to YouTube TV because it was cheaper than paying their ISP for cable. YouTube TV is also way higher quality than the bitrate starved streams the ISP proved.
I was kind of impressed they were able to set it all up and navigate it all on their own. They're certainly getting better.
-
@haberdasher @sjw Probably a building deal package. Some smaller providers have this kinda service. If it's included with, might as well
-
@haberdasher @coolboymew @sjw comcast had this a while ago, could be carrier specific
-
@dictatordave @coolboymew @sjw I myself just use an off-air antenna and receive 30ish channels.
> I get local broadcast channels in HD quality for the one-time price of a $35 antenna, so I am satisfied with that.
I can also login to my Boomer Unit's account and stream channels on her 'Pick 15' package (currently cable providers haven't decided to be total fags like Netflix).
-
@haberdasher @sjw @dictatordave probably even better, you can check lists of IPTV channels and there's a bunch of free channels all over the world, most likely a bunch of these channels are available there. Some of them IP blocks to location but a lot doesn't
-
@coolboymew @sjw No, this is service for a private residence. I doubt the provider makes this package option known because it is assuredly the least profitable for them. I only know about it because I went to a cable store with my Boomer Unit one time in ...2023... and the cable store employee advised that it was an option.
-
@coolboymew @haberdasher @sjw yea you can do a lot with a roku and just save streams to cast to the tv
