If you go to third world countries, you should totally set up a VOIP number, especially if you call the USA a lot and aren't willing to rely solely on internet messengers (be it the normie ones like WhatsApp/TG/FB or the autistic ones like Matrix/XMPP). It costs a bit of money to call up another country even with low VOIP rates. Also carry an unlocked phone, maybe a satphone as long as you're not trying to travel to countries where it's illegal like India.
