The way I did it, pretty much every week, until late 2020? On foot, bus or by bicycle.
> hat if it's actually farther than 5 miles?
Then live closer to the source of groceries. This answers the question of "why live in cities"
because in a city, you shouldn't be further than 5 miles away from your source of food.
>What if I live in a climate that gets very cold as it does in canada?
Most winters I've biked all throughout the winter. And most cities I've lived in didn't even have or plow their bike lanes (but MAN are plowed/shovelled bike lanes ever handy)
> What if I have an injury?
> What If I'm elderly?
Live in a old folks home then
"what if i have an injury" does not justify public policy that requires everyone to have a 100,000$ car that collects dust 95% of the time and when it isn't collecting dust destroys our atmosphere's ability to sustain human life. -

FUD. They are sane, they are economical, and 'environmentally friendly' isn't really meaningful at this level beyond anything that can reduce our level of fossil fuel use.
>If they reverse their trend on nuclear, I’ll believe it
Nuclear tends to take longer than 7 years to build but we are doing that here in saskatchewan, for better or worse. -
Ako Suminoe :njp: (realakosuminoe@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 01-Feb-2023 11:32:04 JST Ako Suminoe :njp: @lichelordgodfrey @Terry @jeffcliff Renewables don't actually require that much oil to get at, but the real problem they have is that their power output is intermittent and would require a large amount of storage to be useful. We could get a lot more if we built up things like off-shore wind and tidal energy. I support expanding nuclear energy, too.
The left shouldn't be the people that we take seriously about the environment because they are incoherent. They not only oppose nuclear power, but they also oppose construction of hydroelectric dams. Um? I am not incoherent. "the left" is a group of billions of people, so yeah, it's incoherent, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take individual leftists seriously.
> They not only oppose nuclear power,
This leftist does not. I oppose the #saskparty being responsible for nuclear power, and building nuclear power plants designed for non-seasonal rivers on seasonal rivers. But nuclear power isn't just the future, it's the infrastructure of today in much of the world and should be. So you can take your strawman leftist and shove it.

And they’ll be ‘happy’ with it because the old way will be ‘wasteful’.
Your grandchildren will balk when you tell them most of your HS classmates had a beater car to get around. They’ll see that as downright sinful, without realizing they’ve been conned into tightening their chains.
Self driving will mean that people can loan out their car like an automated uber when they aren’t using it.
That convenience means fewer people will have their own, preferring to rideshare whenever they need to go anywhere.
50 years later car ownership is niche and the societal engineers don’t have to stress about the tax-cattle grazing anywhere but their assigned plantation.
Even better the nobility won’t have to put up with any of it, they’ll have aerial rideshares to give a wide berth to the teeming filth below.
