   Well, given I can’t demonstrate Kitten (https://codeberg.org/kitten/app) on a PineBook Pro due to lack of HDMI out, I just ordered a CrowPi L since I have a Raspberry Pi 4 lying about unused.

   Got the advanced kit – want to demonstrate how you can do Small Web dev on this thing. And for education… imagine kids making a web site that displays sensor readings (humidity, temperature, etc.) :)

     For one thing, I’m not made of money and there was a Raspberry Pi 4 lying about gathering dust (from before they hired the spycop). In a pefect world, I would shove that up Eben Upton’s arse. We don’t live in a perfect world though and I don’t even know where to find his arse. So, instead, I’m making the best of the shitty world I find myself living in.

     Instead, what I can do is use what exists and preface it with a lengthy disclaimer…

     @poorpocketsmcnewhold Yeah, but having two PinePhones and a PineBook Pro with sketchy-at-best software support and core features not working does not make me want to alpha test anything else for them on my own dime at the moment. I’d love to see a bit more investment in the whole experience from them before I reconsider. My room is starting to look like a junkyard of promising-but-not-quite-there open tech as it is :)

     @aral I went looking for something recently. Got an Odroid C4, but it kernel panics every time after I install an OS.

     Rather than trying to figure that out, I jumped ship to a Zimaboard which has been great so far. It’s a very different thing (x86 vs ARM), but it’s still a single-board computer.

     I never had much use for single board computers though, so I never tested it myself. Might still be worth a look.

     @aral MangoPi might be an option; it’s a cheap RISC-V board with performance characteristics not completely dissimilar to RaspberryPi. Connectors are USB-C and Micro-HDMI though.

     @aral check out olimex's olinuxino boards. They're open hardware, much hardier, and fully free software. Current iterations don't have wifi on them unfortunately, but they have also pioneer boxes that are basicly small freedombox servers. :)
