Actually most of the dads I know are neglectful to some extent, it’s one of the few running fights I’m always have in IRL. Fought w/ the cousin because he didn’t go watch his kids’ basketball game because “I only have 2 days off to play starfield!!!”

There’s something so…..losery about seeing your dad sitting there playing xbox. It’s hard to describe, it just ruins your sense of respect and power when you see him like that. My dad was always occupied with cool stuff, in comparison. Much cooler to a 7 yo son to walk in with a scuba tank or a machine gun than the newest bethesda slop

haberdasher (haberdasher@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 05:34:43 JST haberdasher @WashedOutGundamPilot @BigDuck It is kinda a fear I have about fatherhood -- I'd really like to believe that I'd rather play with my son/daughter than play World of WarCraft for the same amount of time. But I'm just not sure.
My dad got me into computer games -- watching him play 'The Bard's Tale' on a fucking Tandy TL. And my dad was also my soccer coach for ...at least 6 years. So my dad managed to split his time off between his kids and 1980s-1990s vidya, but... just not so sure about myself. -
haberdasher (haberdasher@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 05:41:00 JST haberdasher @WashedOutGundamPilot @BigDuck I dunno ... I agree and disagree. Seeing your dad screaming at a monitor while playing CoD or something (while ignoring you, the kid), yeah, I agree with what you said.
But I kinda felt that way about TV and sports and my dad. Nobody taught me to dislike sportsball ... I just did. I couldn't sit on the couch and watch my dad yell at the TV because some dumbass dropped the pigskin.
But sitting next to my dad while he played a 1980s RPG ... I didn't perceive anything loser-ish about that. Maybe I was too young, but I just didn't. Sitting next to my dad was fun there, but sitting on the couch with my dad during sportsball, I couldn't do it.
My dad was a handyman, so he had plenty of hand and power tools. But he'd always say to me "THE BEST WAY YOU CAN HELP IS TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY". So I did. So now I dont know shit about tools more complicated than a hammer, screwdriver, or hacksaw.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this.
