The melt value will be about 60% of that.
If you work with independent jewelers or jewelers catering to middle eastern customers you can get 18K or 22K which holds more value, and it will cost less than at a typical American jeweler where 18K is a premium charge because they exclusively do mass market 14K.

I imagine that a plain gold wedding band would have relatively good resale value. Gems less so (esp diamonds)
