     @chocolatebar @RealRaul @Royper It’s like whatever that californian witch anime that crunchroll made is, overlaid on a forgettable gundam series.

     It’s just childish, the world is simplistic and dumb, the kind of thing you see in fanfiction. It has the same smell of being written by someone who’s never left their basement in their life, made worse by the twitter-friendly sheen painted over everything. All the characters are weird and diverse, the wannabe feudalist class disparity is completely silly and ridiculous, and the kids are the only ones with any agency.

     Gundam Wing had issues, but at least their autistic protag wsa trained and prepared for his secret mission, they sent him to eart to pilot a highly illegal WMD…..in this one the lady just sends her kid with the super illegal gundam and expects the girl to just stammer and blush while everyone claps and says “ah sorry miss, I know that’s a highly illegal black project that gave us the right to coup the government and attain power, but we - bloodthirsty dictators that slaughtered hundreds of your friends and family to prevent gundam creation - will just let you, a high schooler, continue to operate this WMD at this school!”

     Gundam used to have fleshed out, somewhat realistic worlds where things made sense, they were written by adults who saw more than the surface level appearance of the world around them….this just sounds like yuri fanfics off archiveofourown

     It’s a very, very popular message with female audiences though. It’s basically the plot of every fem hero in hollywood media these days.

     @chocolatebar @RealRaul @Royper Like in ep 1 they just have the kids out on the grass for PE and two guys run in with gundams and start carving off pieces of each other and coming within feet of squishing children on the field.

     Contrast that with Spy Family, where the school is guarded and protected by tons of security because the country’s leadership sends their children there.

     In gundam lesbofest, we’re supposed to believe the all powerful power brokers in the universe are sending their scions to this dumb school and the kids can just engage in 140-ton mecha combat and come within a hair’s breadth of killing those kids. It’s so painfully childish. I expect it from no-name series but come on, this is supposed to be the GOOD franchise.

Their people are putting up more of a fight, they were less normie than star wars and now everyone’s got their hackles up to oppose the metamorphosis (from beloved nerd fandom to mainstream cash cow bled to death and forgotten in 10 yrs)

     They just have to start gaining a footing, get a bunch of avid faggot ‘fans’ on twitter to point at when they say “ignore those fascist CHUDS that supported us for years, they’re the past. The future is THIS!” while they point to a homo’s YuriGundam tweet with 1.3 million likes.

     Then they start the demonization and try to inexorably force out the old guard, they stop giving them what they want and ignoring older beloved IP’s, and before you know it every year just gives us boring shit like the mercury HG lineup while we miss all the cool old MG Mass production kits.

     Harry is given two brooms to play wizard soccer, one from the school (which they never do for other students) and one from his absurdly rich uncle, both the fastest available at their time of purchase. Malfoy buys one that's slightly faster, he's the bad guy.

     I thought I was overreacting when I was the only one upset with the main character bringing a Gundam to school, the very weapon that the galactic government killed her family over. No one seemed to mind or even bring it up.

     I mean have no idea of how it works but some stories just keep going and loses sight of the story they wanted to do, starting to drop the quality, etc.
     I mean I'm doing this as constrasted with LoGH, which ends when Reinhard dies at the end.
     
     I know its not a good example of it "outliving" but an example of "losing the sight" is the Star Wars (which I'm familiar with) Sequels, trying to remake the story for cash sake instead of a proper sequel that continues the story.

     You don't usually enjoy gundam for the story, you enjoy it for the characters and big giant robots beating eachother to shit, you have basically described the overall plot of every UC timeline show ever with Zeon who refuses to die
     
     Actually it's kinda funny how many zeons there, there's the og zeon, then axis zeon, then neo zeon^2 and then the remnants zeon, and then the sleeves, and then Mars zeon, etc. There are more zeons that there are animated shows and each zeon has subdivisions so you can go for a long time :laughing_cirno:
     
     It hampers the experience but it isn't necessarily bad, specially if you cope with "it's supposed to be anti war" :hortler_thonk: I very much enjoyed the UC side stories and there are good games too
     
     I won't speak for other timelines but I suspect it's probably the same as well

     Gundam outlived itself in 1985 when zeta came out which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it means that gundam as a franchise is a set of rules not a story
     
     The only difference with star wars is that gundam has tomino keeping cultural rot at bay, so you can still have good/fun stories, as formulaic as they may be, instead of a board of directors setting deadline after deadline for more goyslop
     
     The world of gundam manga may be a bit more open tho

     Yeah this is what I was asking. because from what I see its always:
     1- Kid gets a Gundam (tho name of the series mecha, so its not that bad)
     2- Heil Zeon are the bad guys and will fight even tho they probably got defeated or whatever
     3- Le Colony Drop time
     but that was only by watching a bit of Unicorn, so no idea
     Actually after saying that I remembered examples of "Outliving its story"
     like Gladiator and now "Gladiator 2" story ends there, the next thing is that the Empire starts cumbling. other one is Terminator and Terminator 2, which while was a good movie, it is much better for a example, because it allowed everything else to be made, terminator 3, 4, 5, whatever I ever only watched the first.
     
     But basically that, Outliving its story is when you stop following a narrative and starts following a set of rules for a thing.
