   Getting to the age where I think getting mad about videogames is silly. Then again if I didn't get mad about videogames back in 2014 I wouldn't be the massive RW influencer I am today with scores of anime nazi friends.

     @PraxisOfEvil I really have become my dad, I guess. He always hated gaming because it’s a tremendous time sink, and it used to chafe me. Now that I’ve grown up I feel the same way, everywhere I look IRL I’m seeing guys spinning their wheels and whining about how their situation is stagnant and shitty, never, EVER realizing that they simply burn all their time on doing 1,000-hour playthroughs on some forgettable, unenjoyable bullshit of the quarter game they’ll never even THINK about in 10 years.

     I get it, they’re fun and all, I just don’t know how you don’t feel that shame in the back of your head when you power it down and look at the clock to see you spent 8 invaluable, irreplaceable hours of your youth on something so fruitless. I’ve tried here and there to get back into it, and I always come right back to the fact that I just don’t have the time to waste on it when it demands 100% of my attention.

     I’ve got a bunch of games I’m looking forward to playing w/ my kids, or in retirement or something, but all alone? It’s not a whole lot better than just masturbating for hours on end. At least THAT doesn’t cost $150 for all the DLC and season passes

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @SirAttlich @PraxisOfEvil i agree, but there is also a time and a place for time sinks, like the dead of winter when you can't garden anymore, and your daily chores don't take up a day, even then, i often find something else to get up to, you'll notice for me work doesn't come into this because growing food is my work and raising livestock.

     @givenup @SirAttlich @PraxisOfEvil True to an extent, but a whole lot of us wasted a LOT of time telling ourselves “ah, I’ll get around to it tomorrow!” while leaning on excuses as to why we can’t do vital tasks to improve our station. I know everyone rankles at this take because we’re all addicts, and nobody likes it when their crutches are kicked out from under them.

     But as someone who wishes he’d spent that gaming time better - despite spending a LOT less than 90% of my generation - I’m alleviating my conscience by telling the younger guys what they’re doing.

     The only real worthwhile gaming time is stuff spent bonding with people, because that’s a lasting memory you’ll make with people, team building, etc.

     @givenup @SirAttlich @PraxisOfEvil A lot of my moral posturing is a time bomb. I know how we shrug it off in the moment. My only hope is that in their nadir someone can hear my voice in the back of their head and feel armed to turn things around.

     I’m looking out for my brothers however I can, and unfortunately words are the only currency I’m flush with.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @SirAttlich @PraxisOfEvil well, ultimately dudes aren't usually gonna change no matter how much good advice you throw at them, unless they're asking you straight up for it, but i spose just maybe someone will see us lamenting the time we wasted away gaming 12 hour sessions and it might hit them where it needs to *shrug*

     @givenup @WashedOutGundamPilot @SirAttlich @PraxisOfEvil I had limited tolerance for shit like 12 hour gaming sessions, I once played a game for maybe 14 hours and felt like complete shit afterward, I had a headache and just felt a general sense of dread over the time I had wasted.
     
     I never even approached that long gaming again and cannot understand how people do it regularly without wanting to kill themselves.
