Why does this keep happening? Brigador is a game I really like on account of being one of the only good mech/vehicle combat games out right now, and reading up on the devlogs for the sequel, they're abandoning the nice spritework in favor of upscaled trash, they're dropping the mech/vehicle aspect in favor of infantry combat, and they're framing the whole thing as "elite commando stealth missions", which is pretty much the exact opposite of "shooty stompy mech game" that made the first work so well. I mean, I could forgive or overlook visual changes, I can understand changes to systems that didn't work well (the original level system is hot garbage), but why do they seem to think there's suddenly a demand for yet another mid indie stealth game? There's a damn open world map system now, why abandon a great and unique concept to make another mid-at-best indie stealth game? :akko_weary:
I know it's still in development, but I hardly see them changing foundational design choices this far in. It's a lot harder to drop a major gameplay system than it is to just tweak values or shuffle assets around.-

It's on a custom engine they're writing themselves as best as I can tell, and I don't think they're rewriting it from scratch given that the devlog videos show them reusing assets from the first game for testing. I think they've just decided to go off on a weird tangent here, and they've fallen into the trap of having a little bubble of yes-men and ass-kissers on their Discord who won't tell them they're being retarded.
Alternatively, they may just be really bad at communicating design intent, and I've taken entirely the wrong message from the devlogs, cause Brigador looked like a dumb twin-stick shooter from the store page and turned out to be something very different. :yui_shrug:luithe likes this. -
boloros (boloros@bae.st)'s status on Saturday, 02-Sep-2023 08:37:35 JST boloros @Giganova8 check if they changed game engine, that is one thing that is wildly different before the consolidation of gamindustry: sequels meant refinement and definition, on account of knowing what worked in the first title and how the engine facilitates it.

I don't think so, at least it's not something they've mentioned. All the core team members are the same as the ones behind the first game. Looks like a case of listening to bad feedback, or maybe it's something like what happened with Doom, where Doom 3 was technically more in line with the creative vision of id than the others, but most people didn't like it very much. :zt_think:Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this.
