Seriously, if you're in a country where the vast majority of people aren't even going to Church, then spending your budget on foreign missions is a proclamation that you hate your neighbor and don't want them hearing the Gospel.
Maybe if America was 90% Christian again we could send missionaries to different places. But America isn't. Abolish foreign missions.- Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this.

It gets them out of the nest, living on their own terms, living a monk-like life (hopefully, though some sects really seemed to ignore that and treat it like a party IME) during their very important formative years alone. They get to taste some struggle & strife in the 3rd world, serve as a pseudo clergical function (screwing up natives’ lives, often, bc they’re retarded) and getting a wider understanding of mankind.
Great for the church? Eh. Great for the people? Not really, since most conversions fall away the second the missionary heads home.
But it helps sharpen the church youth while keeping them out of the military or college, hopefully cementing them and fixing their heart/personality into a more righteous, rigid, unyielding form before we toss them back into the gommorean estate.

You get a feel for all the diff. missionary types, each has its own weird culture you have to deal with.

Really gives you some hard-bitten experience in life. Something most good trad families don’t give their kids out the gate.
Granted, it can just as often turn into an unemployed college dorm hangout where nobody does anything at all. Some of them go REAL native when they’re just shipped abroad to preach and realize they don’t have any oversight to go along with their fat stipend.

"Where are the fathers? Why do they start drinking beer at 9am every day? When do they go to work?" Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this.
