   So apparently Misskey is suddenly getting really strict about lewds? What's that about?

     @japananon What I know is that Misskey.io has blocked Baraag because people on there do not properly tag their art as NSFW. Baraag being a Western instance, there is probably the issue of uncensored genitals being put into the feeds of people in Japan that are using Misskey. Due to the influx of gaijin on the Misskey server, they might be having that issue.

     Now some people on Baraag are upset they have to tag their porn art with the NSFW filter, when the admin has already asked this of people in the past and I believe is also in the server rules.
     What I think: this is common courtesy to the Federated timeline, as even my eyes have been assaulted scrolling through there from people from Baraag because people don't tag their weird fetish art with the NSFW filter. Untagged Microsoft paint quality furry diaper art comes to mind in a flashback. :pepeShotgun:

     @r000t @japananon Depends on the lewds. If it's 2D you just gotta pop an NSFW tag if it's even slightly erotic. If it's 3D it's a no-no on .io. Anything else is something I have not heard about or read deep enough in their ruleset to understand. Maybe japananon can provide more info if there are some.
     
     Regardless, you can't even sign up as a westerner anymore on .io since the admin blocked access from outside japan to their registration form.

     @coin @japananon and of course the people that just like the UX and etc. aren't going to deploy misskey, which is btw the easiest (imo) fedi software to deploy

     that's why I used it for all those throwaway BEEP BOOP NOW ARCHIVING instances that *still* appear in blocklists. it takes less than 5 minutes to deploy misskey.

     @coin @r000t I'm not party to the details, but I would imagine the lack of genital censoring could be an issue. If misskey-dot-io is physically hosted in Japan, hosting any images of uncensored genitals...2D or 3D, drawings or anything else, creates a very real legal risk. The police can and have arrested people for similar.

     @japananon @r000t Sure, but I saw they have defederated from baraag for not tagging images as NSFW. Or was it because baraag users do not have to censor their images, since it's not hosted by misskey. That is also depends on whether misskey provides an image proxy.

     @japananon @r000t Can the misskey software make instances marked as NSFW only? It could save them a hassle and keep federation working? I have never touched misskey so I don't know nor can I read their documentation since it's in Japanese.

     @coin @r000t That's something I wondered. If they were cacheing images from Baraag, that'd be a problem... but it could just be JP users were unhappy seeing untagged NSFW all over the feed and decided the nuclear option was easier. idk

     @coin @r000t I'm not sure how you could develop a good filter for this... if you rejected all non-NSFW tagged remote media, you'd be blocking legitimately SFW content more often than not. If you flag all remote media NSFW on local feed, people will have to click though on everything anyway just to see legit SFW posts, so the same problem reoccurs.
