Do you sometimes hear notification sounds ("Bloop!") but when you check Notifications 🔔 there's nothing new there?
This may be because you've selected the "Mentions" tab instead of the "All" tab in the Notifications section (they're the two links at the very top of Notifications).
If you have All selected, you will hear and see all notifications.
If you have Mentions selected, you will hear all notifications but only see notifications for posts/replies that mention you.

@feditips well, that explains why I often hear double-bloops. I’m hearing bloops from *both* tabs!

Sometimes I see a bar with an ellipses near or at the top of my notifications list.
I assume that there was a notification that went away, like someone replied and then deleted before I saw it. But that's just a hunch. Is there an official explanation somewhere?

That sometimes appears if it hasn't updated the view for some reason. If you refresh the page it should give you an updated view and the ellipsis will disappear.

You can customise your notifications on the website interface by clicking the slider icon in the top right corner of the notifications column. That lets you set all kinds of things.

Yeah I think the notifications are cool, but the bell icon which I click on to see them never shows that there are any (I can only see them in my Windows notifications). Am I missing a setting somewhere, or that functionality isn't there yet, or...? My preference would be to see them there and switch off the browser notifications (if/when that's possible).

Or.... You have notification filters set to only play sounds and/or show desktop notifications, but not "show in column"
