I've been seeing a lot less 40k stuff and far fewer people willing to defend it since the early hellthreads of early 2021, so that's cool. I consider myself and @mkultra vindicated in that regard -

Also 40k will be pozzed and ruined just like the rest over the next 10 years, the company is eager to become a marvel unto itself.
The designs are still gay and dumb, too. Guns are ugly, childish, uncool. The armor? ugh. The gigantic cathedral robots are cool in the sense they’d look good on an album cover, but not as a $700 coffee table trophy

It’s a very strong, antiquated flavor, and the artstyle is just stuck in this weird ‘sensory man’ proportion because the guys making it in 1980 didn’t think it would be a mainstream thing in 50 years.
They just wanted to make marines that were easy to cast and mold, but now the franchise has to bend over backwards to try and invent super detailed lore to make up for simple artistic design choices. Show this to the guys back then and they’d wonder why the hell you went to so much work to rationalize something made to be easy to paint and durable to remove from a cast

Humber (humber@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 14:05:27 JST Humber @WashedOutGundamPilot @doctorsex @mkultra Dawn of War was a cool game when it first came out for the quality of the voice overs, the detailed animations of recruiting units (dropping from orbit, summoned from hell, etc), and the novelty of the setting.
The wiki is enjoyable to peruse for the kind of obscure backstory you only get from a 30+ year old franchise.
I still like the setting personally, but mostly the older stuff in terms of the setting and in real life.
The recent LOTR series was garbage, for instance, but the original films and novel are still good regardless. -
Humber (humber@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 08-Jul-2023 14:30:06 JST Humber @WashedOutGundamPilot @doctorsex @mkultra It is a ridiculous 80's property that fits in nicely with other ridiculous 80's properties like Judge Dread, Rambo, the Schwarzenegger Conan movies, Mad Max, etc.
It works as long as it stays true to it's 80's feel and nostalgia. However, like many aging properties (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and so on) when they try to make a modern version it falls flat.
Most of these IP's should have gradually faded away in favor of new versions that fit the current zeitgeist. But in the age of massive corporations milking every property dry and jews snuffing out any truly original new ideas, nothing of the sort has come about so now we have 80-year-old Harrison Ford creaking about in whatever abortion the newest Indian Jones movie is called. -

Now that there’s a dedicated lore industry pumping out 3-hour lore dumps of the most boring hard scifi minutiae they can find, they’ll only feed it more.
I’m sure by the end of the decade they’ll ahve xeno encyclopedias detailing the anatomy and organ layout of tyranids, can’t leave anything undetailed.
