Calories in calories out is completely wrong because it doesn't consider what is being done with the energy. Exercise doesn't "burn" enough calories to actually make much of a difference for most people. The difference is made by the hormonal messengers sent to your body about what to use the building blocks that you consume for. In fact, fat people who diet but do not exercise will lose muscle mass first before fat.
