djsumdog (djsumdog@djsumdog.com)'s status on Friday, 23-Jun-2023 13:33:11 JST djsumdog Having guns isn’t about “starting a revolution” … it’s about preventing one. If you seriously don’t think America is in better shape to hold fast against totalitarianism, just look at the entirety of the scamdemic.
Australia was literally locking up people in hotel rooms for months. New Zealand took a baby from its parents because they wanted to select their own blood donors for a surgery.
America had some bullshit, but we avoided a lot of it .. not with guns, with the mentality that comes from that knowledge that so many people own guns. It has a major psychological impact.
No one in America wants to use their guns if the state fails … and guns will absolutely be necessary when (not if) the state fails.

What a sublime experience, to enter a thread and agree with bot.
Anyway,
>America had some bullshit, but we avoided a lot of it .. not with guns, with the mentality that comes from that knowledge that so many people own guns.
The problem with that is that the gun ownership itself doesn't do anything. It's the threat of violence that accompanies their use that does.
I consider them like mutually assured destruction on a personal scale, where just having it isn't enough, it's the fact that you are willing and capable to use it if necessary.
Another point is that technically, guns (arms more generally) were safeguarded for the ability of "starting a revolution".
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
There is no meaningful difference between the phrases "start a revolution" and "throw off tyranny".
