     Any time I get irritated a bit I just think back to when I chose my chick and remind myself that’s what I ordered. You don’t buy a ferrari then complain about buying new tires for it

     @BullSchmitt I learned that lesson the hard way when she’d been continuously ordering delivery whenever I was on the road - she was too embarrassed to tell me she couldn’t bring the car out of the parking spot without breaking something (parked behind tractor) and she didn’t know how to drive stick

     @nugger I like stuff, but unless I have kids it’s all a waste. I like having stuff passed down in the family though, things of quality that won’t be made anymore are a treasure, a way to remember them. Every time I use our 130-yo pickaxe I think about our ancestor using it to build his first homestead in the middle of nowhere

     If she doesn’t learn from her mom then there’s weird gaps. I had to teach her how to break eggs because she was routinely fishing out a bunch of shell fragments every time

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @nugger @CleverMoniker The egg thing is understandable. When I was teaching myself to cook I constantly had pieces of eggshell end up in my pan. It wasn't until I bought my home and started raising chickens that I started cracking eggs cleanly. There is something different about commercial eggs. Like the shells are thinner and more brittle so they don't crack as cleanly for some reason.

     @Bead @nugger @CleverMoniker …..she’s been raising chickens pretty enthusiastically for like, 3 years now. I think she only figured it out in year 2. Just never thought about doing it better, she doesn’t pay a whole lot of attention to stuff all the time, kinda lives in her head sometimes so tasks, chores are kinda daydreaming time for her.

     She’s darn good at raising animals though, I like to think there’s some nurturing spiritual component there because her fertility rates are way better than when I raise stuff. She swelled our group by 5x or so since she moved in. She’s able to bring in some fair money that way, which is cool.

     @Bead @WashedOutGundamPilot @nugger @CleverMoniker what the chickens are fed matters, also how fresh they are matters too. If the eggs aren't washed, you can throw them in the fridge for a while, and I've noticed they don't crack as well over time.

     @sickburnbro @Bead @nugger @CleverMoniker Some of the soil counts, too, if you don’t have a calcium supplement. When they were looking thin she started collecting the eggshells, baking them, and pulverizing them to sprinkle around. She still does it sometimes, but I just do it the nig way and throw them in the compost pile. With all the household waste they seem to get pretty healthy, more or less.

     @Paultron @nugger @CleverMoniker There’s something about cooking that’s hallowed and old that men just don’t partake in. When a woman presents a meal to her family, it’s got the faint aura of a sacrament, an exhibition of love and labor that we just cannot feel with our masculine wiring.

     As a task, guys can get good at it, but most guys talk a big game only to deliver a 7/10 dish. They tend to tailor things to their own taste, so the end result is more polarizing, often overseasoned too. We have stronger passions, I guess.

It is understandable, she was an orphan and the people that adopted her were pretty well off and so her adopted mom didn't teach her any home making skill.

     the only thing women have me beat in with cooking is finer sense of smell letting them taste more subtle flavors but i have yet to meat one who can properly treat meat sauce
