If you wanna go that route then I’d go direct entry with a guard unit, too. ANG gets to send sponsored kids off to dedicated training wings, so you get friendly with an F-16 wing, make them want to add you to the unit, and then have them send you off to train so you can come back and party.
THAT is how smart guys get their fighter slots. Only retards go active duty hoping to outcompete for an F-22 slot (which mostly sucks anyway, fighters are cool for the short hops, but the rest of the time you’d rather be a Boeing trucker with a lavatory and a cot to sleep on)

I don’t know how hardy our stuff is with age now, but tiny batteries, aged connectors don’t quite inspire confidence.
I think it was the iowa that had that turret explosion blow some guys up, that happened because they’d stored the powder in hawaii and it broke down, ended up pre-igniting when the rammer was pushing it into the tube. While the basic principle doesn’t apply to modern stuff, I think we’d see similar echoes equipment stored up today. They’ll still have enough ammo to get the job done, but not comfortably, and guys will have to be good at working around a 5-35% dud rate. It’ll be an embarrassing, come-on-man slapfight between giants trying to out-retard each other.
I guess it’s the same take I have on generalized collapse: We can pray for it all we want but the country has far deeper reserves and more buffer to draw on than we think. Everyone thinks things will fall apart but I have my money on being able to fast-forward 10, 20, and 30 years to find things are largely the same, only much spiritually worse in ways you’d never foreseen.
At least with military equipment there are fewer variables, and I can be optimistic that the combined stupidity of 3rd worlders with chip away at it over decades

IIRC they count the AMARG stuff as workable still for the stuff that was parked under its own power - in reality it would take a few years to bring them back to life after rotting in the sun for years.
Stuff doesn’t like sitting in my experience. We deal with this all the time, where guys park their aircraft and assume it’ll be fine to sell after a couple years of sitting. Then it turns out the heads are all corroded from sitting in the cool, dry hangar anyways. Rubber seals, fuel lines, magnetos, all this crap is theoretically fine until you roll it out to write a check for it, then you realize you’ll be lucky to break even after fixing everything - and that’s pretty easy storage, with old air-cooled engines with loose tolerances and vintage US material. Once you get past 10 years? OOF, let alone 20. Last plane that rolled out past that was 23 years parked, took $40,000 in parts just to get it to taxi again, and that was a guy shoestringing it & working for free.
And the average age of military stuff should exceed that by a good chunk. Unless it’s relatively new production, I just don’t think they’ll be able to reach into the warehouses and drag out missiles without a whole host of niggles impeding the mission. They’ll have plenty, but whoever deals with the logistics will have their hands full trying to sift the good from the bad

But I did want to say that it's possible that defense niggas is trying to catch more government monies and underreporting is a great way to create demand that doesn't exist. So that's definitely within the realm of possibility and in some cases it's probably true.
But what I can attest for personally, is that the defense communications networks in USINDOPACOM is not great and in constant stress to unshackle themselves from the fires-magnet nightmare that has become the TOC. For all of their bluster and pride, the army officers are scared shitless of getting raped by chicom ary. It's all bluster and all talk. But that doesn't mean they can do it. It's not going well and it's barely even happening at this point. Niggas in Hawaii ain't lookin so hot rn. Officers can't give up wideband shit for shit man.
This, of course, to say nothing of the absolute STATE of the vics, equipment and weapons out here. It is not good. Things are mismanaged, stolen to other units, or broken and unfixable for any number of reasons. Not that the five sided building in DC would be in any position to know. Reporting up that shits fucked just doesn't happen like it used too and it gets worse each and every year. I do not doubt it when people on the hill screech that they are dangerously low on munitions. Despite all the thieves and war profiteers out there waiting to just make a ill-gotten dollar I still have confidence that I know what a concerned professional sounds like when I read it. From personal experience, I err on the side that this is all quite likely.
