Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 05:34:04 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: vegans - maybe the most retarded species. It's not even that I don't think a person can live on a vegan diet and maintain good health (provided they have access to more exotic foods than what are available in most regions). It's the stupidity around where their food comes from that drives me nuts. "I eat veggies and no animals were harmed or exploited in their production" Oh really? How many groundhogs and rabbits were caught up in the combine harvesting that corn? How many creatures were tilled into the soil when the seed was sown? Where did the fertilizer come from? What is the impact on the biology around the farm when the liquid fertilizer runs off and finds its way into streams? -
Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 19:15:59 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: @utopify_org I eat rabbit. If I had to I'd eat groundhog. The problem with them being eaten up by farm equipment is a problem for a vegan not me.
You might be actually retarded. Where is it that you think I'm wasting where you are conserving? Please let me know. I'm actively investigating alternative energy sources and planting a forest around my house. Most of my food comes from local farms.
Everything you have said has been wrong. You know nothing about where food comes from. You think because you drink oat milk from your country you are saving the planet. I can guarantee that was farmed using modern mechanized farming techniques. If they didn't use animal shit to feed it they used petroleum based fertilizer.
Your lifestyle can not be maintained in much of the world without depending on resources from elsewhere. The global market could disappear tomorrow and I can walk down to the local actually sustainable farm and pick up some milk. I also have been building my own space for nearly a decade. I've already harvested several pounds of berries and the summer isn't even started yet. -

As long as you have a more destructive life style than a vegan, you don't have any right to point with a finger on anyone.
And like always: If you would care about those groundhogs, rabbits and other animals, you wouldn't eat meat at all. Because how do you think most animals from mass-productions get their food from?

I never said that. I said it's an issue that doesn't keep me up at night. I do think mechanized production is bad whether done for vegans or the feed fed to feed lot livestock. I don't think the industry is being managed well but that doesn't mean I think we should abandon livestock. -

But what I've learnt from your shitposter colleagues is that blocking is the only way, because everything else is a waste of time. You will never accept scientific facts or anything else, what doesn't fit your destructive world view.

Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 19:50:43 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: @utopify_org @dcc well anything not eaten which includes the inedible parts (animals could probably eat most of what we call inedible). In the "food system" a lot of produce is discarded because it's ugly or can't be distributed.
Everything organic will eventually break down and that breakdown will often include methane. You can harvest that methane and use it, but most people aren't doing that. -

There is no reason to buy strawberries from mexico when I can just grow them here. I can also eat the ugly fruits that might not be suitable for picky eaters that want a perfectly shaped strawberry. -

But there are still people who say this isn't sustainable at all...

Not only do you need fuel but all the other problems I mentioned already. But growing your own food is absolutely something I think more people should be doing -
maxmoon 🌱 (utopify_org@social.linux.pizza)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 19:57:03 JST maxmoon 🌱 @thatguyoverthere I totally agree! It doesn't make sense to buy food oversees if you can grow it in your garden or literally everywhere there is a little bit of soil and water.

Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 20:06:13 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: @utopify_org there are a lot of ways to avoid tilling. One I'm experimenting with is planting directly into composted straw bales. Another is raised beds.
Permaculture is more focused on perennial plants and building a coherent system that more or less sustains itself. A goal of mine as well because I can't expect I'll be able to do everything I do now forever.
As far as solar goes, the resources used to build panels and store the energy are insane. I would like to see more exploration into other energy harvesting but that's a completely different discussion -
maxmoon 🌱 (utopify_org@social.linux.pizza)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 20:06:15 JST maxmoon 🌱 @thatguyoverthere How is the alternative to tilling called?
I only know permaculture. Is that what you mean?
btw. I don't use fossil fuels for tilling. I borrowed an electric machine, which runs with the energy I produce with solar panels. Having a cable might be annoying while working, but it's much more sustainable.

Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: (thatguyoverthere@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 01-Jun-2023 20:35:59 JST Disinformation Purveyor :verified_think: @utopify_org I like straw bale planting a lot. I think raised beds look really nice, but straw bales are cheap and can be moved wherever you want them, and when you are done you can use them to make compost. The ground beneath the straw bales ends up full of nutrients too because they compost in place. There is never any weeding in a straw bale garden either since you control which seeds are going in. The soil is full of latent seed, and disrupting it wakes them up. Weeds can be restorative, but in the garden they can also compete.
The raised bed in the picture is growing potatoes this year. The extra straw is an attempt to control where they actual tubers go. Hopefully I can harvest most of the crop from the hay with low effort. I've not had this work for me but it seems to work for others. Last time I tried I stopped piling straw and the plants got too tall and fell over in a storm. -
