     @DW2 There was a festival called Rockville or something. All the big bands are from 20+ years ago. Three Days Grace is the "newest" headliner they had and they are from like 2004.

     @DW2 It’s not that music is dead, it’s just diffused into 20,000 sub-niches. It’s one of the few media pieces that an enterprising, talented nobody can make in his home without any assistance - there IS a lot of good stuff being made. The problem is finding it amongst all the noise.

     That’s why all the music stuff now is predicated on trying desperately to connect the average listener to novel music they’ll actually like - but all those services suck because they’re constantly being subsumed into the record label millieu. Whatever you like, someone else does, too.

     “There hasn’t been anything good since new wave” says the boomer, not realizing there’s a subculture making new-old-stock new wave that wouldn’t have felt out of place in the 80s.

     Music has a discovery problem, not a manufacturing problem.

     @DW2 And most of the kids I know listen to a motley collection of what I think of as “feels”, or what older generations would call “I’m open to anything, as long as it’s good”.

     It’s a motley assortment of things that stand out, but have a common thread across different genres. They’ll have a mix of standouts from metal, orchestral, pop, foreign, techno, vintage, as long as there’s a minimum level of quality to it.

     That’s why the kids (sorry, zoomers aren’t kids anymore, they’re adults and therefore not on the cutting edge of youth culture) now have these memes that use bulgarian popsynth remixes in between finnish black metal chainsaw man memes. They’s stumbling across the standouts among every genre through cultural cross-pollination

     @Sugizo @DW2 Corpos can’t find the gems because everything good fails to establish a critical mass of popularity. Nothing can challenge the old guard because the customer base is split into fractions among newer stuff without enough in one basket to establish a new fave.

     Also radio doesn’t work like it used to, it’s now just background noise to be used in public. That’s why they like the same rotating catalog, it’s like an inoffensive security blanket, something that doesn’t draw attention and feels familiar enough to put normies at ease.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @DW2 There's a lot of good music out there it's just that it IS buried underneath a million layers of subgenres, I think Sven talked about this recently on TDS too recently. Nothing can break through the mainstream in terms of anything rock/metal/classical and all of its subgenres because jews and record labels don't want actual thought provoking critical music out there. Hell, they don't want fun music made by Whites at all out there in the mainstream, they don't like Japanese rock/metal getting big either by the way, look at X-Japan, Loudness, Dead End, AION, Rosenfeld. I can keep going but yes, there's still a lot of good music out there.

     @DW2 While I’m thinking about it I doubt many of the mans of opera over its run even really loved it. They loved the culture of it, the feeling that they’re in the nobility, they’re fans of quality and taste.

     Kinda like how audiophile nerds will listen to shitty, meandering jazz today because it’s got a culture of insane audio recordings - they actually like the tech, the never ending ladder climb of better and better gear to shop for and install, and the guys who really like the gear all play jazz because it’s just what you do when you have high cost audio gear

     if any of it were good then people would be listening to it on shitty earbuds they got for free.

     1- music became 100% a marketing piece, it's no more perceived as a piece of art nor something bigger than a tweet

     2- streaming created the opportunity of consuming music without compromise, with no self investment

     What some people describes as a deterioration is in reality an expansion of the meaning of music for the basic consumer. Now we have more space for music detached from discourse.

     @NotImportant @DW2 I never minded the electronica and techno because theyd actually mix a beat. Dubstep was literally just obnoxious noise with a lot of bass. Total dogshit and itd give me migraines when it came on. The dance floors would empty but mr dj is a true conesuier so he plays the shit for another hour even though everyone else hates it. The fanbase was the worst trying to explain to me how stringing noises together with a bassline is actually super deep and i just dont get it and im not high enough. FUCK OFF.

     2. He missed the point with OP. Most people barely remember Sonny John Moore's stage name "Shrillex". They don't remember his music or any lesser name of that scene from less than a decade ago. The memory of composers and their works persisted long after their height of popularity. The question is: why?

     music has such a low barrier of entry now, and there is so much being made, that you can listen to new songs every day and not listen to the same thing as your friend who is listening to new songs every day.
