Total literary ignorance. It shows that not only do they not understand that good art is meant to be interpreted in different ways by different people, but also that they're only capable of gleaming a surface level reading of the themes and messaging in a given piece of art.
Being "anti misogyny" or whatever is not a theme. It's not an idea. These people just saw certain scenes like the one in Xenoblade 2 where Pyra and Brighid roast Tora for being a weird creep and thought "WA0W THIS GAME DOESNT FUCK AROUND WITH HECKING S*XISTS!!!11!!". That's it.
They didn't see that scene as a deeper look into any of the characters, they didn't analyze or think about any of the deeper metaphors in the plot or storytelling. They just saw words on the screen that they interpreted to agree with their worldview.

@ArdainianRight God I wish western VAs would stop pretending like they "are" the characters. Not even the Japanese VAs are the characters. They're just the people chosen to be their voices. And in the western VAs case, not much thought is given to who gets picked.
Like I enjoyed Skye's performance in Xenoblade 2 but damn bitch know your place. You don't know the characters better than Takahashi himself. I'd be pretty upset if I had someone voice one of my characters, only to go around saying how what happens to them in the story "isn't what that character would do". Like stfu.

I always call out Peach for acting like a total cunt in Mario Odyssey's ending, but at least 99% of that game is a full-throated celebration of Mario and his history. The politicization of gaming genres that should be free from this shit (as also seen in Celeste, A Hat in Time etc) is arguably worse than it happening in story-driven games, because (1) it's completely gratuitous and (2) it means there's no escape from the poz, at least if you're a Sony Nigger or primarily buy (((Western))) games.

That said, if the NoA fags pushed for that ending, I think they only got away with it because it preserved the Status Quo. There are multiple versions of Link across the Zelda timeline, so someone like Skyward Sword Link can be implied to settle down with SS Zelda after the game is done, but there is only one Mario and one Peach, and Nintendo is probably very unwilling to permanently change their relationship in any meaningful way. The Odyssey ending was probably viewed as a cute way to dodge the thorny issue of Mario *actually* marrying Peach, because it makes zero sense for Nintendo to *want* to tear down their fucking mascot. Not to mention that plenty of past Mario games have given Peach an overall far more active role than Odyssey did, including the 3D Mario platformer that directly preceded Odyssey.
Humiliating someone like Luigi is another question entirely, hell, I suspect Nintendo still hasn't forgiven him over the Year of Luigi losing them a lot of money.

@ChristiJunior @LittleTom I can almost guarantee the way Peach acts at the end of Odyssey was done at the request of Nintendo of America. There's a youtube channel run by Kitt and Krysta, the two people who used to run NoA's PR up until they closed their California branch. Most of their show is them giving terrible opinions on games, but every once in a while they let slip some info that paints a picture of the kind of views that are prevalent at NoA.
For instance, during their review of the Mario movie they showed a lot of genuine vitriol towards the video game version of Princess Peach. Saying that the movie was the only version of the character that they've ever liked and that her counterpart from the games is a characterless blow-up doll. They gave the impression that the sentiment was shared at the office, especially when they said that they were disgusted by the wedding plot of Odyssey and hated having to promote the game with Peach in a wedding dress. So I'd bet money that they weren't alone and that Treehouse persuaded the devs to make Peach go all Ms. Independent at the end.
They've also let slip that when Nintendo started putting more emphasis on worldwide simultaneous releases and working more closely with NoA, they would have the Japanese devs take workshops on including more diversity and being more mindful of what's unacceptable in America. Of course they phrased it as this wonderful thing that NoA was doing to help those backwards Japanese be more inclusive and thus sell more games in America.
