Don't forget there was a controversy with the AMD 7xxx CPUs where they'll burn out if you try to OC the ram because the silicon is already running at it's limits from the factory.
But notably, many modern computers to avoid fan noise (because normies hate that) now turn the fan on when the CPU hits the thermal limits only; see Macbooks and others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgeh7ZJRhZU
@RustyCrab extrememe overclockers expect a half a decade life span, but modern laptops are made to live even shorter lifes with soldered on memory/ssd's that literally run out of read/write cycles many times as fast at those ambient temps
@i what timeline are we talking about with variance? 2-3 years? I have a 2016 laptop with very good cooling that still works to this day but I've come to understand that's just no longer realistic
@RustyCrab thermal failsafes would kick in before it got too bad, but you're playing silicon russian roulette, accelerating the rate at which the physical FET's die out
@PhenomX6@i oh mine has no qualms with noise thats for sure. One of the things I hate about the thinner laptops is they're so much louder than the thick ones. The larger ones just sound like wind blowing at max load
