How attractive is a wife after giving birth or vomiting during pregnancy? Not very I would assume, but husbands manage to push through that.
     If a man wanting emotional support from his wife has mommy issues, then a woman wanting protection from her husband has daddy issues.

     @Impaler I’m giving you all a blanket ban for a reason - your soul is too small to distinguish the things you should rightfully be weepy at right now.

     Once you go through REAL suffering, actual pain and anguish that enlarges the soul then you’ll be better at distinguishing the things that are appropriate to indulge in with your girl. For most of the suburban raised kids, you won’t have much. Most of the biggest issues in your childhood will look small once you get real life-and-death living under your belt.

     So try to fight that impulse for now, and if you ever do feel like it’s the right choice then hopefully you’re onto something. But never forget this: She’ll look to you in her darkest moment, and finding out that rock she’s built her house on is nothing more than hardpacked clay will NOT be comforting for her.

     I’d much rather you, say, be comforting and accommodating about a miscarriage with her, and let the bulk of it out in front of your dad & brothers. It’s not good to shake her confidence when things are looking bleak.

     Welcome to your ship, Captain. It’s a heavy responsibility.

     @Victor_Emmanuel @DEERBLOOD @Impaler That’s why I want you guys to live more, experience the highs and lows of life. The more you see firsthand the easier it is to keep a perspective. Being acquainted with death makes it less of a bummer when you think about wallowing in ‘trauma’ like this redditor’s childhood bullying. If he’d gone through shit after that, he’d’ve had time to think and chew on his past experiences, he’d have gotten over it while he’s trying to sleep, one day at a time. And then he’d have a better perspective, it wouldn’t be as heavy as it used to be.

     There’s a LOT of rough stuff on the horizon for all of us. We’re in for a very rough go if people’s thermometers are calibrated for a +-10º swath of suburban comfort.

     This is the problem with sex outside of marriage. Women have sex with so many different men that it has lost all its meaning. A woman who is intimate with one man is not looking to trade up. She’s more or less imprinted on him like a baby duck imprints on its mother. It doesn’t go looking for another one.

     But the thing is EvoPsych doesn't just go out the window because of what we want or what is supposed to be. There are literally thousands of example like the one responded to in the OP.
     And it's not even their fault they feel a visceral disgust at a man showing any vulnerability. Any more than it's a man's fault he feels a visceral disgust at a fat chick. But their fault or not, it is a fact of life.

     @Impaler We still have instincts, and most people lack the ability to brainwash them away. A guy, say, a year in breaking down into a weeping, blubbering mess, sobbing in your lap for a full hour as he recounts being molested by his teacher WILL have an effect in your head. A part of you will (somewhat rightfully) feel like he’s not reliable when survival is on the line. And then you just feel differently.

     Maybe you notice, but most people don’t. They don’t put it into words, they just feel and act, pulling away and getting inexplicably irritated by every little thing he does. You’ll start to be impatient at the way he asks you for permission instead of doing things, or get the ‘ick’ when he sounds all submissive when he’s dealing with a stronger man. You’ll feel like he’s just more effeminate and weak, and you’ll stop feeling positive towards him. That’s your deep programming disentangling you from being bound with a guy who will get you and your children slaughtered by stronger tribes whose men arent’ blubbering pussies.

     I think I understand what you’re saying. And I don’t disagree with it. We should also remember that individual personality has a lot to do with what it attractive to somebody. One woman may find a man weak while the other finds him caring. The second woman may find a different man cold while the first woman finds him strong.

     The lesbian experience thing is like polling women on any sexual deviant acts they’ve done.

     Being a “true” lesbian who lives with another woman and/or “marries” one is different I think.

     And just because a lesbian doesn’t consistently hate on men, doesn’t mean she didn’t have a bad experience with one that makes her uncomfortable being intimate with men.

     But they should be turned off or the theory holds true, but they still have intimacy, regardless of the truth value of it. This has to be explained away or the exception swallows the rule.
     
     If one makes it about nurture, and claims lesbianism is anything other than pure genetics, than my original position holds, and the question is merely one of environmental conditions.
     
     If it is environment, then environment could similarly influence the traits desired in a male, which could include finding openess attractive or otherwise not being turned off by it.
     
     I honestly think women are more like clay than stone. They can be molded. And to think that a man cannot be open is to assume they're fixed and rigid.
     
     Going back to the original post, the mistake was not the openness, but the timing, the context, or even the follow up. He needs to set up the environment, before, during, and after.

     First, the percentage of women who have had a lesbian experience is high, probably 60%, though the rate of those who stay lesbian or admit to the experience in polls is far lower.
     
     Second, you're right, in some cases it may be triggered by trauma, but I know a few lesbians that are just lesbians, and self-employed conservative ones at that, and I'm in California.
     
     In either case, it goes to show that going lesbian is within the realm of possibility for women given the right conditions.

     I grew up in a very strange town. Almost everyone went through a libertarian phase at some point, even the women. Many very independent types.
     
     And honestly, while I think most lesbians are insufferable, these are people I've known from childhood. They've never done me wrong, and they're not the type to put rainbow stickers on anything.
