     for example in Dragon's Dogma I made my pawn be a hot redhead and my own character is sorta me if my hair was much longer + was slim + could use weaponry

     @mmmfeet That would be the difference. I have Kikuchiyo as my avatar because I love her. These people have anime girls sometimes because they cannot be them, and I've seen a lot of them who aren't even fans of anime but still hijack the aesthetic.

     This is a core tenet of that community. A lot of them will come out as transgender because "I played video game and made character with big ass and thought wow she is literally me". This sounds like satire, until you realize many of them believe this.

     It's a common mindset in scenes adjacent to that community. The furry "fandom" has a massive portion (especially of tourists/newfags) who literally see their original characters as LITERALLY ME to the point they will get assblasted if you make fun of their fursona or draw it in the wrong way. This is because they see their fursona as literally them, and now with that knowledge you are now free to fuck with furries online.

Really it seems like the content itself needs to be objectively against these types of people, but then you run into the problem of having messaging forced into media where normal people would just like to forget about it.

     Don't be too overt about it, go for a demographic that feels ostracized, and most importantly don't cave in or be in a position where you're forced to. When the leftists/commies/God's Chosen were the best at propaganda, they were smart in that they did it subtly to the point it flies over the head of people. Case in point, how Ken Levine talks about the writing for Bioshock which gives the game an entirely different meaning when you "get" it.

     Use a local copy. Maintain your local copy. Protect your local copy. Backup your local copy. Cryptographically sign your local copy. Check the integrity of your local copy. Trust your local copy.

     If video game characters are modern mythology, who cares if someone else got the mythos wrong. Just be prepared to fallback to your known-correct copy of the mythos. The only thing you potentially lose is the ability to talk to other fans without a compatibility shim/translation layer.

     But I'm smart enough not to interact with other Ekko mains anyway.
