     Sending a kid off to be an apprentice when he's middle school aged would actually be better for kids than keeping them in the modern school system.

     @Hoss I want an “essentials” of core internships, where you spend a week in government stuff, old folks’ homes, etc. to see what street-level civil service is like.

     Then, you can have electives, where kids acquaint themselves with workplaces throughout their parent’s circles so you have inbuilt support

     Ideally the "electives" are partnerships with businesses and serve as "on-ramps" to immediate employment as adults.

     @Hoss Yeah, things nearby, in town, with community ties. I don’t like shunting kids into a career track without a lot of exposure to the economy though. Most people can scarcely name more than a dozen lines of work. There’s so much you’d never even think of that you only find when you stumble on it.

     LIke, you could be a photo developer for film-based aerial survey contracts, making gigantic room-sized maps of US terrain on black & white film (because gov contracts demand it still)

     How would you know that’s a thing at 15?

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @Hoss IMO some hybrid system would be best. Half-time hands-on with different real-world jobs, and half-time book learning. Plus mandatory team- and/or martial arts like sports.
