Cool, but this is real adult world, where you have to finance this stuff somehow. We can’t keep acting like 14 year olds saying “well, just do it illegally lol”. We gotta be grownups about these things. It’s much easier to say “duh, just buy it on the black market maaaaaan” than done. You make choices that have consequences.
Going the nigger route may save you money but it comes with drawbacks, probably more than they’re worth. Shoddy material that ages poorly and falls apart years before it should, zero warranty for it, all kinds of fuckery with disability-seeking shitskins and dirtbags holding up construction for a ransom. That’s just the start, too - don’t forget about the tax implications! You WILL have county people come out when they pay to update their sat imagery, and they WILL have a lot of questions about what that nifty, fancy new taxable structure is you never told them about.
First, how will you finance construction if it’s under the table? You gotta get the money from somewhere, and nobody here is well off enough to be able to just toss out $10k for an essential fix - otherwise more poasters would be familiar with the ins and outs of running these kinds of things.
Okay, you manage to scrape together a couple thousand for some cool under the table work - surprise! it sucks ass. Every time I’ve cheaped out on something and gone with the “I know a guy who has extra asphalt/wood/cement” it has lasted about 15 years before needing complete replacement. If you nig up a project, it’ll jew you in return. If we’d just sucked it up and done it the right way, we wouldn’t be looking at about $40k in repairs before we sell this place. Now add in the “ah I didn’t tell the county anything lol” and see how fun it is to demand $40% more than your home is assessed at when they start building a new subdivision down the road.
I’ve been dealing with this nonsense for quite some time, I don’t have a lot of patience for people who aren’t in the same boat telling me about fantasy numbers. I know MY numbers that I’ve seen in my family. When you have a homestead you’ll get the opposite of what you plan for: If you think it’s cheap, you’re gonna be ass raped on expenses and breakdowns. If you plan for the worst, then you’ll see those choices pay dividends over time.
