i think recent events have solidified my long standing view that while government is supposed to be the ideal body to set standards and drive global change and initiatives, realistically it will be perverted by those who want nothing to do with governing because elected leaders currently acquire their "legitimate" power from a subjugated and incompetent voter base
This means most likely those they vote for are also subjugated and incompetent and the actually intelligent experts and engineers and admin workers in the trenches who got their job through merit instead of a paid marketing campaign never get the final say or authority to drive meaningful change, which we're seeing the results of now - the complete erosion of trust in these institutions to be immune to hostile outside influence or dramatic policy changes that undo years of hard work.
when you look at a country like China, where authoritarian policies and principles ensure national unity and a single cohesive vision, all these issues magically vanish and progress (whatever that may end up being) is ensured. china's principles and doctrine have remained consistent for years and years, so even if they're a thorny geopolitical partner at least they don't whipsaw every election cycle. if I was some tiny burgeoning nation looking for foreign aid to support growth and raising living standards I'd be going to them for support. if only we could have that same concept without the whole paranoid party politics and internal subterfuge nonsense where nobody wants to speak out without risk of being disappeared (and lmao social credit score). I don't want commie garbage but is this current situation really any better?
i want the government dismantled for completely different reasons than the average smoothbrain it seems - i just don't think elected leadership oversight of government departments works at all anymore. when you get sycophants and incompetents elected to the top positions by a captive government, the shit just rolls downhill and nobody below them has a realistic chance of changing their mind. and before you go "elon wasn't elected!!!" yeah but he got his authority delegated by someone elected and look at where that's getting us now.-

@7666@comp.lain.la democracy is probably one of the most messiest governments, there's so many other governments with varying levels of that "calmness" through authoritarianism and some of them are even sort of democracies, you could move to switzerland or norway or south korea or the philippines but out of all the countries you're still in the us

@7666 id rather take the uncertainty of a failing democracy than the stability of an oppressive dictatorship hell-bent on sending me to my death on the front or to prison -
